    2. Deposit cheque into the same account that you drew it on.

    No, Charities cheques are from an account you fund from payroll giving pound matched from your employer and deducted pre tax so for a Higher rate tax payer £60 would put £200 in the account. Cheques can only be written to registered UK charities. It also means that after a few months of not sending charity money anyone it is easy to have enough sitting in the account to have tags back and removed again.
