  • I still want to try one of these, basically they are bicycles or tricycles, usually recumbent, that have full fairing and thus give the illusion of being more like a human powered car than an upright bicycle.

    Examples:

    http://www.sunrider-cycles.com/en/

    http://www.sinnerbikes.com/modellen/mango/mango-sport/?lang=en

Netherlands are at the forefront of these, in part because they're 30 years ahead in terms of a popular cycling culture and also because the flat lands with high crosswinds really favour this kind of human powered vehicle.

I still want to do something like the Dunwich Dynamo using one.

  • I would definitely like one, there were a few on the LEL.
Must start buying lottery tickets / get a bigger shed to keep it in!

Storage is definitely the #1 issue with them.

  • We in the Netherlands hate guys driving these things. We call them bananas on wheels (at least in my part of the country), a few months ago I saw one that was stickered as a banana.

Since Strava is there I even hate them more because they ruin every segment.

  • What's to hate about them?

    Go on, share the views.

Happy to acknowledge they look daft, but that doesn't lessen my desire to try one as I think it would be a blast.

  • cant see them catching on in wigan much.

unless you like having stuff chucked at you.

  • Oh I want to try them myself too, it most certainly will be a blast.
But all of the people over here driving those things are utter cunts.. But I think that's also because the Netherlands is a country full of cyclist. And a lot of roadcyclist (so on road bikes) are cunts, they think they own the road here. But the people riding/driving those bananas are even more awfull, they sometimes even have a freakin' loud horn and always scare the shit out of people. Besides that they're going 40/50 km's/h and most cyclist go 20/30, so it's also quite dangerous.

  • The BMW drivers of the bi/tricycle.

  • exactly, although the mechanical part of these velomobiles is quite cool, had one in the shop a few days ago, nice things, owner wasn't that cool though.

  • You old executive Velocio..........

I actually bought one of those a while ago, the battery was missing and the transmission was rubbish without it, but I did have a few fun rides round the local park until I got an offer I couldn't refuse. Some guy paid me a small fortune for it!

  • Storage is definitely the #1 issue with them.

Storage is the number 2 issue. Riding one and getting all sorts of attention is the number 1 I would guess.

  • Meh, that bit doesn't bother me.

Storing it on the other hand.

    And then the price.

  • What's the weight (range) of these thingies?

  • The Quest Carbon is 34.5kgs,
lots of stuff about the technology here
    http://en.velomobiel.nl/quest/technische_gegevens.php

  • Cheers!

  • Lots of options for expression

  • That's ridiculous, now I really want one.

  • Claim the VAT back and you could have a school of 300 in return for £150K ... I see where this is going ...

  • ^^^Would!

  • ^^^^ Landshark. Straight to paint porn!

  • Why aren't they just called pedal cars?

... that they're going 40/50 km's/h and most cyclist go 20/30, so it's also quite dangerousanoying always being overtaken.

    ;)

  • Isn't Mike Burrows(?) really into these, especially in relation to setting peddle powered speed records?

  • ...40-50km/h cruise speed, for "average" people???

  • I don't think average people ride them.
