I generally don’t have to alter grind - maybe 1 step tighter for much darker roasts (e.g. typical Union vs typical HasBean). Dose is the main variable for me when deciding what I’m in the mood for - that’s in the context of the stock basket, and how much the puck is up against the shower screen. I’ve found it needs to be very intimately acquainted (fair bit of resistance engaging the portafilter) if going for a ristretto, as larger doses in larger baskets have failed to produce the same effect.

Mindful of this I filled the basket more than I was doing yesterday, clamped the PF in a bit tighter, and am enjoying a nice coffee (with no around the PF leakage) this morning.
