Proves my point really. Close ups of the frames always make me go phwoooar... whereas full build shots just make me go mmmmmeh.
this is amazing

I've been doing the same. Have you seen the WW steel thread?

Yep, definitely a new group on an old frame
Old frame with new group does not really bother me and can qualify to porn... PhilPub's Ron Cooper for instance is a really nice example (I believe I'm talking about the righ person / right bike here, from CP)... In the case of that peugeot, it's just that the frame did not appear to me as a very high end one, despite being called "super competition". I'm sure Peugeot did better than this during that era. The other Peugeot DMC Zone posted after already seems nicer (seat post cluster looks like it's a forged one, chromed dropout and chainstay, etc...)

Check the link I posted - if it is a '79 then it was the top of the range in the catalogue, but they did higher end custom order frames (including Reynolds 753).

Miche wheels with Super Record is a bit odd too.

Bora wheels would have been nice for Porn but the Miche Supertype is not really out of place more left field .. That's a circa 1200g / £1600 wheel set ..

I always think, when people have so much money to spend on a bike, why they are not better than they are, personal taste sure but...

Indeed, cheers! Re: the Peugeot, if it's 531 I guess it's better quality than my first road bike (not saying much; Peugeot Equipe, Carbolite 103) and IMO well worthy of porning up.

Definitely a nice bike, I'd love to own it, but my intuition told me it was not special... that it was like so many Peugeot... like they are so many Raleigh here. Just like Raleigh, Peugeot and MBK sometime did the equivalent of Raleigh special products, and they are really nice... maybe I was being too demanding / pedant and was expecting this instead of the super competition... which just I looked into after checking your link... actually very nice with the full spidel group!
