FINALLY EVERYTHING CAME!!!!
will have pics up soon, it was too dark last night to get proper shots. and i think she deserves all the help she can get considering how long this build took!
carpark ride feels pretty solid, very aggro.
tonight, i promise!
and kidscientifik;
i'm sure i've said this before but i think your's is just spot on everything. subtle yet loud, in more good ways then one. sick!

ah stoked to see this

ok! can't get the color of the frame, long day again, so these will have to do for now, wanted a new-old-school vibe to this build, like old school colors, new/current technology.
overall very happy with it, still no ride time clocked in. and yea, gotta sort out that spacer and some other stuff.
weighs in at 9.45kg, heavier then i expected.
and to kidscientifik; the hachet is dedicated to you!
no more talk, just pics, let me know what you all think!
hope you like it as much as i do, this IS afterall a belated birthday present for me, from myself!

V nice. No Phil Woodz cranks or BB though ;)?
-
• #81
tom; wasn't actually even planning to change my cranks, but everything took a bit longer then it should, and i had a bit more spare time then i wanted and i was just looking and looking and thought, why not? LoL.

managed to bring her out for a 30min ride. very aggressive, makes me want to keep pushing, super smooth too, that though could be a combination of everything.
very happy with her!

• #83
great to hear that. are you based in london?
-
• #84
happy to say i'm joining the Supernaut club tomorrow :) [Gangsta RIP 05.06.13]
might be worth organising a Tonic owners ride at some point, can't be that many of these around London?
-
• #85
congrats m-x, good choice!
i had two different gangstas as my daily whips before and really liked them - great frames to throw around. then some two years ago i decided (also due to some minor size issues) to move a bit towards faster + skinnier tyres side but keep the sloping steel feeling of gangstas, and wrote the first email to tony. and have never regretted that choice.
zephyr mate, thanks for the kind words. yours is looking really good as well and nice to hear that the first impressions are positive. especially liking the color - reminds of the forest green on '93 cannondale track, which has always been one of my favorites out there.
might want to upgrade the cranks at some point myself and try a less aggressive drop bar, but if you're happy with them, so be it. looking forward to some more after ride photos!

1000; i'm i think about 10000km away from london. sorry bout that.
m-x; pics pics pics!!!
kidscientifik; glad you like the color, and i asked for feedback regarding those cranks, and from what i understand, they are pretty good enough for most, just maybe not at "bling" as a set of omiums, so they should be perfect for what i do, will have a look at them when i have some spare cash to burn.
hahaha, and for the drop bars, idea was to keep the costs low, so i just reused what i already have, and also want to clock in more ride time before i spend more money for anything, but i understand where you're comin from. thanks!
only just back from a trip so, will try to get some ride time in and snap some pics of her in the sun, so that you all can see the glowing green. which is what i love so much.

Hi
Newbie supernaut question - does anyone know how the headset on these things installs? I heard it was very easy but i'm pulling my hair out trying to get the fork back on properly...
thanks
-
• #88
^Mine's a press fit upper, integrated lower. I was swapping stems/bars recently, so have had the forks regularly in and out and it is indeed a piece of piss, as you say.
Not sure why you're having troubles? Any pics, or details as to how the fork is fitting, or not, as the case maybe be.
btw, Congrats on your new acquisition, good to hear (and soon see?) another forum Tonic.
@zephyr11 - Your Frameset looks amazing, loving the colour....you must be very happy.

mine is also press fit upper / integrated lower.
i've put it all together and it looks right and seems fairly solid...however i didn't end up using the compression ring at all, which is weird as it is a used frame and it came with the headset that was on the f&f
the bit i means is the silver ring with the cut-out below.
as its press-fit upper maybe i don't need it?
-
• #90
I have the compression ring fitted on mine, sitting between dust cap and upper bearing (as per your picture) Bit strange, what is happening when you fit the ring?
-
• #91
bjammin; thanks! can i just ask, what headset is that and also that spacer that is a bit taller? tried to find something like that, but just seems impossible. don't want so many spacers below the stem.
m-x; my bike shop had to take awhile to get it on too.

re: headset - I'm not sure on the exact maker/model. Perhaps ask the folk at Tonic, as it would've been the standard one used back then.
As for the spacer, are you referring to the height, or colour? That particular one would've come with the purchase of a used frameset, so again I can't offer any specifics to maker/model (other than the obvious of it being a 10mm that suited the stack) I'll have a look for any spares of similar colour, if that's what your after. -
• #93
b'; it's that "cone" sahped lookin one, can't seem to find one that looks like it will fit on mine.
-
• #94
Ahh, okay, makes sense. That's the dust cap.
-
• #95
Thanks for the help guys - worked out where I was going wrong with the headset - had the top bearings the wrong way round. All sorted and the compression ring is now in place - phew!
Through it all together today as a work in progress- need to get a black flite obviously and might change the wheels back (got a really nice pair of silver deep vs but i love riding these Mercurys so am torn). Also need to lose a link out the chain.
Very happy with the frame, supernaut was on my bucket list and lives up to its billing, stiff and very solid, but lush ride.

m-x lookin sharp! and glad you sorted out the headset!
quick qn; anyone rode the supernaut with risers and drops before? i've actually not rode any fixed with risers. just wondering.

Risers feel too upright to me, but riding positions are completely personal, just get something cheap to test how you like it.
yup, that's mine. thanks a lot.
been really happy with it since i finally got it a year ago; only changed the pedals to time atacs and the saddle to fizik kurve (thanks b'jammin).
how about yours zephyr11? looking forward to see some more pics.
