  • ^^^ well it just seemed surprising to me, people who on the one hand are aiming for sub-6hrs, on the other hand thinking 38/23 is high/normal for the hills. maybe they weren't the same people, I wasn't paying that much attention. (my lowest gear will be 42/23)

  • I actually still think it's 50/50 whether I can do this. I guess that's why I'm fretting so much, it's not certain either way.

  • Latitude has been shut down and moved to Google+ as "Location".

Using turn by turn nav and tracking (in 2 separate aps) my N4 lasted 5:30.

  • My lowest gear is 44/17.

  • So is my highest.

  • are you singlespeeding?

  • Does this mean Strava is out of the question?

Strava on a phone simply records, it doesn't broadcast.

If you are updating someone/something then that takes more power.

  • ^^ that'll be a yes then. or fixed?

  • Fixed. I'm also not sure I can do it, but I'm going to try anyway.

  • I'm not going for any sort of PB, I'm just going to sit back, enjoy the scenery, and hope that I don't get taken out by anyone. Given I have 10 h to complete the ride before getting swept off the course, I think I can afford to take it easy.

  • ^^ yay! comrade in uncertainty.

  • By my calc the tricky bit will be getting to the hills. Cruising on gears at pace is easy so the cut-offs are harsher then than once you get to the hills.

Every time I get a twinge of "I can't do this" I remember Boris Johnson is doing it.

  • ^^^ Cyclemeter (http://www.abvio.com/cyclemeter/) is pretty good at alerting people to your whereabouts, if you wish. Batterylife probably better than Strava, too.

I, however, will be releasing a carrier pigeon at quarter-hour intervals.

  • Doctor Cake - that's increasingly my game plan, too. With the notion of latern rouging it, with the chance of getting caught and out-wheelie-ing Sagan down The Mall.

  • Dammit - what time did you say you were going for to get the early slot?
I seem to have been put in at the end - I think Great Ormond Street (my charity) may have done this..

  • ^ seems like the ranking thing went a bit awry at some point. differences of over an hour between people with the same predicted times...

  • ^^ yay! comrade in uncertainty.

I'll join you in uncertainty too

    Quite honestly I cannot remember.

I probably put down 6 hours, if that was a choice, as that's standard Sunday-ride-with-Brixton pace.

I just copied the first list I saw. Lazy reader....

  • Is anyone going to try and post a decent time? I keep thinking, 'yeah, I should be able to at least touch 6 hours' but then 25000 people to wade through is going to be interesting.

  • It will be interesting to see- my only experience of this sort of thing has been the London to Brighton, which has an additional 8,000 official riders, and who knows how many unofficial riders.

Whilst there are staggered start times for that ride they make no attempt to base that on predicted speed on the road- although the more experienced people do try to get the earliest slots.

Anyway, even leaving just after 6am the roads are mental on the LtoB, I wanted to try to set a fast time last year but ended up averaging 14mph for the first hour, then 19mph for the second two hours, simply due to the number of people on the road.

It may be different on Sunday- if everyone takes off like their arse is on fire then it may be possible to average 20mph from the gun, it'll be interesting finding out anyway.

  • Thinking about the LtoB has just reminded me of that first hour- I decided to try to match the speed-through-traffic of a guy on a Tarmac, the challenge was that I had to ride carefully and considerately- he was riding like a cock.

Anyway, my game was going quite well, until the other guy ran straight into the back of another cyclist, which I guess was inevitable given the way he was riding.
