Get a grip of yourself man. How would abolishing Sir Elton save any money? He's paid tax here for years, unlike the Royals who only relatively recently started to contribute.
It was a tad tongue in cheek about Sir Elton, but seeing as he is a Knight of the realm, are we going to abolish the Queen but keep the Knights? Or does Sir Elton get the chop as well?
My view is that Monarchy all things considered in term positive PR for Britain most likely earns their keep and then some. You make not like it but clearly there are many many people inside and outside of Britain who like and enjoy having the British Monarchy and think they are value for money.
I live in France where the current head of state is colloquially referred to as l'imbécile. In recent memory the US democratically voted in a man twice who actually was to all intents and purposes is an imbecile. Maybe there is a value in having a head of state who is above politics?
