• I know this ride doesn't have official leaders, but does anyone know of a long-term participant that'd be interested in talking to a journalist about a blog post on Critical Mass?

  • @Sparky: Was this the result? How the Met police criminalised the Critical Mass bike ride

    Good article, I thought.

  • Seems biased to me...

  • How so?

  • "What is believed to be one of the biggest mass arrests in recent history targeted a peaceful group deemed dangerous solely because they gathered to ride together in large numbers."

  • Acting like a bunch of twats, jumping all the lights, having a go at a motorist for rightfully going through a green light and all sorts of other shit.

    The response "Its critical mass!!!"

Like I give a shit. Stop acting like antisocial knobs.

Fair enough. The point of critical mass is to reclaim the streets from motorists. For one evening a month. It's not even that disruptive in London as it's not that big. But yeah, it is pretty anti social, but it's a form of protest really, and if it doesn't tread on people's toes it's pretty pointless.

The whole mass arrest thing... I don't know. You can't go out looking to disrupt things on a night like that and be surprised if the coppers clamp down hard.

It's always worth pointing out that as an 'organised coincidence', Critical Mass isn't very easy to pin down, and part of its enduring appeal is that people can project all sorts of 'points' onto it. Endless debates are constantly had around the world what the 'point' is, but so far consensus has proved fairly elusive. :)

  • having a good time wasnt it?
    before riding bikes got politicised....

It's this for me. It's not everyone's cup of tea but if your on the ride for anything other than a sporty/beery jaunt through the city then you're not doing very well for yourself.

  • Well, depends who you talk to.

But yeah, I should've said that's my opinion rather than the point.

  • Anyone know if this is happening tomorrow, or is it taking a break for easter?

  • I dont think it will take any breaks

  • It didn't take a break.
    I was there.
I peeled off to go to the V&A though.
