Dunno if this place is the right one, but if anyone's clued up on ebay rules, please enlighten me.
Bought an Airport Extreme off ebay the other day, the ad content was just 'Original box missing', nothing more. As the seller had 100% rating, I thought why not. Won the auction, and received it in a bit of a state. Some spilled stuff on there and a cheap replacement power lead. The spills I could wipe off, but wrong lead isn't cool.
Been in touch with the seller, and after a fair amount of emails he agreed to a full refund. I sent it back recorded at the post office £7.99 to make sure he received it properly.
Got my refund for the item + postage, but not my return postage. Been reading up on ebay rules, but they seem quite vague. Should I pay return postage or not? I don't think I should as I didn't receive the actual item he claimed it was.
Edit: here's the listing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=231005202067
Contacted the seller, suggested he refund me for return postage and we can leave it with positive feedback for both of us. Got this back
"That's not a problem, go ahead and leave a negative feedback. I will do same."
Sigh. I can't really be bothered, but at the same time I'm £8 down and I can't really see what he can base negative feedback on.

Feedback on ebay is now totally supportive of the buyer, I'm not sure sellers can even nerg buyers anymore.
There was a change a year or two ago but I cant remember exactly what it was.

This is true. You cannot leave neg feedback about a buyer. The worst he can do is not give you feedback.

Wallop, cheers guys.

Ooof, that must've stung. He dropped from 100% to 91.7%. Feedback was that the item was inaccurate, rest i left at neutral.
-
• #4461
And he's already left feedback for me. All sorted then.
-
• #4462
...so no bloodbath?
: (

Morale says no.
Tbh, it did more drastic affect than I thought. 91.7% feedback means you're shot on eBay, I'd never buy from someone with such poor score.

"Wake" has to be the nicest looking alarm clock I've ever seen.
(yes I bought it). However there's soooo many limitations on iOS compared to Android. Half the features of wake won't work unless you leave it in the foreground, DND off, and screen not locked. All becuase of iOS restrictions. Android has none of these.
2- No widgets - I like having weather visible right there without having to drag anything
3- Not able to replace weather widget in notification bar (I perfer Y! weather app / Underground Weather)
4- Not able to swipe away a notification. Instead having to click a tiny "x" and then "clear" but this removes ALL of that programs.
5- Not being able to place apps/folders where I want. This really annoyes me. I don't want them at the top of the screen, but down near the dock!
6- Limit to 4 things on the dock
7- NO QUICK TOGGLES (ARGEEEEEEEEEE)
8- Being in Google eco system is awkward on iPhone (but not impossible). All I want is my contact groups sync'd but CardDAV doesn't support it.
9- No Google Music app (although this is google's fault not Apples)
10- Fucking non-standard connectors.
11- Not able to use custom keyboards like SwiftkeyFinal one is hardware
12- No led colour notification that I have something I should look at (ie: text/call/email). Instead the phone just sits there black screen unless you unlock and check. I know you can use the led flash, but it flashes 3 times and then that's it. No wonder people run their phone batteries down, you have to keep checking it instead of just glancing over to see if a small light is flashing or not.
That's pretty much it that's bugging me. Other than that, iOS 6 is seriously an improvement since the last iOS I used (2009 lol). Everything feels responsive, the apps do what I want.So anyone using iOS 7... how much of the above is solved ? I know there's a control panel type thing now which has some toggle switches.

Sounds like you are more suited to an Android phone?
-
• #4467
Kirth, you have a lot of problems with the iPhone. The only reason I jailbreaked it for was for number 11. I jailbreaked so I could have a DVORAK keyboard layout.
Does anyone with IOS7 know if that's solved?
oh and if you setup a gmail account the contacts are synced.

haha I know I'm more suited to an Android phone (and I do have one, just a major smashed screen). Work offered my an iPhone and it costs me nothing, so why not.
Can't jailbreak the phone due to it not being mine, and actively having company spyware on it (although I have access to what it reports).
Really was just giving my thoughts based upon coming from the Android world. iOS does seem far behind in terms of customization however, in terms of "just fucking use it" then the only real annoyances in that list are 4 and 12.

So rumour has it that iOS7 will allow you (eventually) to have 3rd party keyboards. I think that's probably due to the success of Swype and Swiftkey on Android.
My Google accounts / gmail / calendar are all set up however you cannot get contact GROUPS sync'd over via CardDAV. You can do it using Exchange as the sync method for Google, but only if you are a Google apps user (I'm not). It's a limitation of CardDAV, so I thought fine, I'll create groups on the phone. Oh wait, what's that ? I have to use iCloud and do it there ? WTF?
I think I really need to write an opinion piece on iOS and Android. Neither are perfect. MIUI was the closest I found to making a nice merge of the two OSes.

anyone done the SSD thing with a mac pro (desktop) thinking about doing it, but a decent sized SSD (480gb) is over £300 wondering whether its worth it..
-
• #4471
Do you need that much on a desktop? With the possibility to add have more than one drive I'd go cheap smaller SSD and a bigger disk for storage
-
• #4472
Yep exactly that. Go with a 120gb then chuck in a big second drive.

Anyone recommend a youtube video grabber that they've used? [free]
-
• #4474
So I have recently acquired an ipad mini and enjoyed it for a week until I tried to do two things:
1) download files from the internet
2) watch BBC sport videos
I have the lastest 6.1.3 so dont think that jailbreaking is an option, but wonder if you guys had any clever ideas? I basically want to be able to download avi files and to watch BBC sport live feeds (these dont work in the iplayer or BBC sport apps I have found so far).
Any ideas before I sell it on here and get an android tablet? -

TubeTV is ok.
I've asked about the postage back, but he's gone silent. Think it's time for some leverage.
