Do wonder what impact that has on braking, I can't imagine a worn in ano-surface is very good compared to something like an open pro.

Wow did not think they would wear so evenly. Looks just like a silver brakesurface.
Well it wasn't even at first, but it's had a fair bit of use now so evened out.

I have noticed no difference. Braking is indistinguishable from my open pro rims on another bike. Aluminium is aluminium

I'm thinking about getting Novatec A291/F582's laced 20/24 to Archetypes, probably with CX-rays. I'm about 76kg, that likely to be enough spokes or should i go up to 24/28?
-
• #1705
76kg! what are you? a fattie? get 36h and hope for the best
20/24's plentiful, as long it's build well, Strada?
-
• #1706
got that a bit wrong, looks like im about 72kg so now i can have a guilt free 4kg meal. Will get them built locally, theres a shop a 12 mile ride away that i havent tried before. I'd drop in there for a bit of advice however he doesnt currently stock Archetypes in less than 28 hole so i figured its probably a bit cheaper to source them from Hubjub myself and just pay for the build & spokes

Defo 28 spokes at the back. I reckon with such a shallow rim.
20 or 24 for the front.

As promised, picture of a grey worn archetype rim. Excuse the excessive number of pixels, my phone is mega rad
What pads are you using?
-
• #1709
swissstop greens
-
• #1710
cool. Im planning on getting the TB-14s later in year so are these the best pad to use? I assume you need a swissstop shoe as well or will they fit most other shoes? (I have these currently: http://www.aztecbrakes.co.uk/rim/road/pba2002)
-
• #1711
it will fit those shoes, if you are thinking swisstop to preserve the anodised surface then you are wrong, its not the pads that will make any diff, dont ride it in rain (or dont ride enough) :P
-
• #1712
thanks. No was just thinking about most effective stopping on the anodised rim (while its there!). The anodised look nice but also look like they wont work as well as the normal alu surface for braking...
-
• #1713
^^all of this.
-
• #1714
swsstop green is generally more effective on any rims anodized or not in my experience. It lasts much longer and keeps the surface cleaner than cheapo chalky rubber pads so in a way its better value.
-
• #1715
cheers will give them a go then
-
• #1716
Yeah this.^^ I used standard Swisstop Sram Pads and they wore down pretty fucking quick. Like two weeks. And absolutely shredded the anodizing on my Archetypes. Changed to greens and they've been on there for almost two months and there is little to no wear at all. Great stopping power too and silent!

PX are stocking their very well reviewed carbon tubs for 369.99 at the moment.

• #1719
Both are tubs?

Soz didn't mean to write clinchers.

Looks like they are clearing out stocks of 10 speed

Could you suggest me more "deep" rims. I wanna get Campag record hubs and someone suggested me to lace them on Ambrosio rims. But I like to look of "deep" V, obviously I don't wanna get full deep V's.
-
• #1723
So you want something between the 20mm deep Ambrosio and the 30mm deep 'Deep' V? Well, that just leaves all the 24,25,27 and 28mm deep rims which flood the market. Might be an idea if you told us what they are for, and what disadvantage of the Deep-V you hope to avoid by using a rim with up to ΒΌ" less depth.

it's a v he's after, tester, not a V, simple enough, no..?
cxp33
next instalment: which spokes..?

U would be more aero
