  • You realised you will have to removed not only the brakes and cable, but also cover up the braze on for track racing?

  • time for n+1
just build up another bike for the track

  • My parents had his&hers Overbury's MTBs made up in the 80's. The shop is still there in Bristol, but everything is really faded in the windows and I haven't seen it open for a while!

Considering the first photo, you're getting on alright.

    This.

Get a cheap Fuji and use that for the track.

    pioneers ?

  • pioneers ?

Sounds about right, but I'd have to check with dad.

They were fillet brazed and made to measure and really nicely constructed.

One was stolen, found and then stolen again and the other is currently being used as a polo bike. I think a proper restore might be in the pipeline in the future.

  • polo bike yikes it's one of the royalty of early UK MTB's !!
i bought a pioneer and sold it on retrobikes
they go bandy on there for overbury's

if you are ever looking to sell they'll bite your hand off
    shame about the stolen one

One of the Bristol polo players is a Retrobike fiend and he was always begging for us to give it to him!

I promise to do it justice one day.

  • Argh, really will be starting to build up a little collection of bikes then . Got myself a full carbon orbea a few months ago, plus this one for shorter runs, then a track bike as well....only thing about the fuji's is they're quite heavy, which is what made me fancy converting this one.

Eyes out for a cheap carbon frame methinks.... Next build here we come

  • I had an Overburys MTB back in 1994, they were about 5 miles away from me. One of the best quality frames i've ever owned - Columbus tubing, fillet brazed, blue into yellow fade which seemed a bit of a signature colour at the time.

That's slightly bizarre, i bought mine 2nd hand from a lady who's husband also had one, it was a Pioneer with decals on the headtube and Shimano Deore.

Edit: Exage not Deore and it was 1990.

Yeah, steel touring frames are fantastic for track racing.

  • Finally finished. Next Project is something geared to ride to amsterdam on in the summer...

Wouldn't an Overburys touring bike make an excellent geared project for a ride to Amsterdam next summer???

  • now it's all finished and complete, break it down into it's component parts and switch most of it over to a track frame then build it up again with gears

    simples

Unlikely, but I don't imagine your parents were Eric and Wanda Newby?

They rode around Ireland on a pair of Overburys. Eric , btw was a fixed/ss man..

  • this bike deserves gears, mudguards and racks.

  • If this frame was the right size for me i'd have built it up as a tourer, too small though unfortunately, but too nice to let it go. Great little run around though now. When the mrs wants a new bike i'l maybe build it back up with gears for her.

Final tweaks though, finally got it to what i wanted from the start. Track bike next.

  • Too small, says the bloke with the saddle set too high.

  • Set too high for who ? it's too low for me at what it is ....

  • For you, especially with that angle if it's the only way to make it comfortable.

  • Point taken ed. I saw you on your Randonneur before Christmas and it's an absolute beaut by the way.

So i've seen the error of my ways and this build is now being re-borne as i think it needs to go back to a geared/mudgarded number. It's a good size for the Mrs and means she might actually want to come for a ride on a weekend after trading in the current 2 tonne specialised that she has. Plus it free's up space for me to build a track bike for the summer.

So far the plan is :

    • STI shifters (as she definitely won't want the down tube shifters)
    • Keeping the single front ring
    • Rear Casette
    • New (old) Cantilevers
    • Front and Rear Mech (torn between campag & dura ace)
    • Brooks Saddle
    • Leather tape
    • Mudguards
    • Front hub refurb

Am i missing anything here ? Also, could anyone give suggestions on campag vs shimano here ? I know it's really a personal thing, but i'm thinking ease of use for the mrs. In terms of adapters for the downshifters is that a simple thing to change ?

Actually looking forward to returning this to a former glory !!

  • Just found this thread. I'm about to start restoring my Overbury's Peak Finder and I wondered if anyone had a lead on frame decals.
Ideally I need a respray, but I don't really want to lose the head badge.
