To avoid being called out in future, what's generally accepted pedestrian crossing behavior? A HGV driver yelled at me this morning for going through one while a pedestrian was crossing, but they were still well in the opposite lane.
Am I pissing off pedestrians or is this ok? I'm aware that the law probably says 'stop', but I care more about being safe and courteous.
I think it's a grey area. If there's an island then you can count each direction as a separate entity. However if I always think it better that if you pass anyone on crossings the polite thing to do is to pass from behind. What they haven't seen cant hurt etc
Edit I guess not grey at all. I thought the island thing applied only to light controlled crossings. Plus most crossings feature zigzags which legally means you shouldn't be alongside any other vehicle i.e. overtaking or be overtaken.
