• ^^ Yeah I appreciate that. I just think of it as the pedestrian owns that piece of road until they reach a curb or refuge. Same way we don't like a taxi cab trying to share a bus lane with cyclists. Perhaps if they had 2-3 metres buffer instead of 1 they wouldn't even notice you.

    I pretty much afford most people that section. Once they've stepped onto it, I don't move until they're practically stepping off it, unless it's a hideously busy one where I'll take a chance when they're just about halfway across. Case in point Long Acre/Endell St in Covent Garden.

    For us:

    you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing

    and

    A zebra crossing with a central island is two separate crossings (see pictures in Crossings (18 to 30)).

    For pedestrians:

    Wait until traffic has stopped from both directions or the road is clear before crossing. Remember that traffic does not have to stop until someone has moved onto the crossing.
