Not read all of this thread, so forgive me if I have missed something.
I organised the last two Grupetto open track meets, and there were women only events in both. Unfortunatley it was a struggle to the sepperate womens events properly, as both years there weren't really enough women who entered to do so. These were proper BC sanctioned race meetings though, which require race licenses, not like this LFGSS thing which is just a bit of fun. Due to this you may have more women entering, which will make running sepperate races a lot better for the racers and spectators. We made a great effort to run seperate races, but unfortunatley they were undersubscribed, and being accused of ignoring the need for women only races is not on. I think you'll find we tried to offer the most women only events out of all the open meetings last year.
Most of the time, there are only 5 or 6 women riding at a race meeting, and in my experience they would rather ride with the B cats (A cats in some cases) than ride with such a small field, as you are not really able to race properly in such a small group.
I don't really post on this forum anymore, as it's mostly just a bunch of tools arguing about pointless bullshit, but reading it this afternoon, there seems to be a lot of debate going on at the moment about women only cycling events. From the quick scan I've had, it seems there is a lot people moaning about the lack of such events, and not many people actually doing anything about it. Organising a race meeting takes a lot of time and effort, and is mostly a thankless task..... So step up! If you build it, they will come!
Wiesia organasid a cracking women only race meeting last year that was a great success, and attracted riders from all over the country. So that proves that there is demand for such events, you just need more people willing to put the time in to organise them, publicise them, and generally make them happen!
Thats just my opinion, and i wont bother checking back here, so feel free to flame away.
