    In essence, cleat positioning is really about positioning your foot in relation to the pedal: “The pedal axle should be 5-7mm behind the ball of your foot,” says Wall. “You can find the ball – which is at your first big toe joint – by putting your thumb on the side of your shoe and wiggling your toes. Mark that point with a piece of white tape on the outside of the shoe, and put the centre of the cleat 5-7mm behind that point.”
