Replaced worn chainring (goddamn those cross ringing), added 7 speed friction groupset, reckon I'm ready for the Buzzard.
We really got to do a LFGSS group ride on an audax.

The Suffolk lanes one on the 20th might be nice. I'm seriously considering that one but haven't booked yet. August seems to be grimpeur month so I think that's me out. May try my first DIY. There's a New Forest / Isle of Wight one on the 1st of September. Like the sound of that.

I'm so busy with one thing and another the next audax I can so is on the 21st Sept. Will probably miss this :(

Chris Negus Memorial Rides?
I might be able to do the 200 (Shaftesbury used to do a bunch of rides at roughly the same time of year called "Golden Tints 200" and "Autumn Leaves 100" or similar). Golden Tints 200 was my first Audax back in 2006.
It's easy to get to on the train from Londonton too (6.28 from Liverpoo St to Elsenham, 2 mile ride to the start).

Chris Negus Memorial Rides?
Yes indeed! Signed up for the 200.

Signed up for the 200k Cat & fiddle from Wolverhampton tomorrow. Not done that distance for about a year, but feel more prepared than Sunday's suburban breakout. Just hope I can cope with the hills...

Back from the Suburban Breakout ride.
Oh yeah. Have to learn to use that GPS thingy properly.
Good to bump in to you at finish. That navigation stuff needs to be worked on!!!

Compared to Sunday's 100, today's Midland's Cat and Fiddle 200 was much more pleasant. I think mainly because it wasn't so hot, and I wasn't carrying a bag on my back. It seemed a very small affair, with only 9 riders, the first 100km was a delight, even if the hills were a struggle. But the Peaks were fantastic, even with the cloudy weather.
The next 50km was a complete drain and I struggled to get up the hills, and could barely start again if I stopped midwa; I just ended up grumping, sitting on a wall, eating a loaf of soreen.
The rest was a slow, but pleasant return to Wolvehampton. Would definitely go again.

Gosh. Sounds lovely apart from the hills.
Not sure about the Suffolk Lanes ride on the 20th now. Logistics don't seem to easy. Closest station I could find was Stowmarket which is around 8 miles away. So something like a 2 and a half to 3 hour journey just to get to the start. Maybe a big cab that will take a bike.

Those doing the Buzzard (the last 600 of the calendar season !) on Sat, I'll be catching the train that arrives at just past 7 and starting late.
Not sure if I'll have any company or not.
But i've tee'd it up with ian who seems not to have a problem with it. -

I'll still be there fella! Let's see if I can keep up with ya :p
Ed's also in for it stillWhat are you thinking for sleep arrangements? It's quite warm out, so under the stars? (or bus stop...)
-
• #1815
Gonna be warm, but even on the warmest day, the night still likely to get very cold, bus shelter if it's gonna be a bit chilly.
Field sound great thought, cold grass doesn't however.

• #1816
yeah I think I will just take a sleeping bag liner and find a discreet patch of dry earth and sleep rough.
possibly within the vicinity of some sort of food.
Or I might just get miserable and decide I'd rather it was all over with and ride on through to spite myself.
-
• #1817
I hear you, mind you it's likely I'll just have a 15 minutes sleep, maybe half an hour as the 15 minutes work for the 400k, might not for the 600k.
-
• #1818
hmmm.
I'll be hoping for/requiring something more than that, I think.

@Arup
I'm doing the Suffolk Lanes, I live in Ipswich and will ride out from there, it's around 25km.Gosh, so that's already an extra 50km. It's about 15km from Stowmarket according to Google Maps and the train gets in at 07:55 so would be starting late. It's very close to the Windmill Ride I did recently so imagine it's quite flat around there.

Broken spoke has scuppered my Buzzard :( Sorry Ed/Zanda, have a great ride,
I think skimping on buying a new set of spokes and using the old ones when I changed rims (different type of rim, similar spoke length needed) has caused them to fail prematurely, that's the second one since I swapped a few months back.
Yep, that was me. Getting more and more embarrassed as the penny dropped.
