Nonsense.
I use both gears on my 2 speed all the time. With the limited inertia from the small wheels it's nice to drop into the low gear to accelerate quickly. Especially if you're carrying a load. For the small extra cost and weight it's a no-brainer.

Like I said, it's very much my opinion rather, I couldn't get used to the two speed option, look like you did, everyone's different.
