My soma juice has horizontal dropouts/trackends on a disc brake Mtb frame.
The positioning is not clever, to release the wheel the whole brake caliper needs to be removed.
I have the same problem on my MTB, but I think it's related to the caliper design too. The advantage of having the caliper directly above the axle is that you don't need slotted caliper mounting holes to make the brake work with the wheel at any point in the track ends.
