• I've got the 30mm clinchers in black (they're great, by the way - proper solid), I'm rather tempted to make 'em silver. What's the best way of getting the black finish off the rims? Or is that a ridiculous dimwit thing to do?

I have done something similar but regretted it in the long run, was some pretty pricey DT swiss rims too!

Basically nitromors to strip the paint, then Autosol/Brasso and a lot of elbow grease. Start with something abrasive down to a soft cotton cloth for buffing.

You can also get proper polishing kit, with abrasive pastes and buffing mops to stick on power tools. You can easily get rims extremely shiny, like mirror. But it is very fleeting as the aluminium soon turns grey and dull again.
