  • Went to the social eating house on Poland st on Saturday.

Decent bit of nosh that. Would recommend and not really all that spenny.

Service was a little hit and miss and I would agree with some of the reviews about small things being a little sloppy, letting it down. Overall, I was happy enough.

Quality chop house next week - which is always on point

  • I'm just going to the bar bit, times is hard on the boulevard!

I went last week (when it was half price) and the best things were the Ox Cheek Nuggets, Poutine and the Chicken Wings. The cucumber and watermelon is also really good to balance out the meat-onslaught.

Overall though I didn't think it was as quite as good as before they revamped the menu, definitely worth it at half price, but may not so much at full whack.

Make sure you get the French Dip which is probably still the best thing on the menu.

  • How's the burger?!

  • What should I eat there? Going tonight

The ox cheek nuggets and the ox cheek french dip are amazing, however that is a VERY savoury couplet.

I fancied the poutine but it was off.

The chana burger was average, but the chilli dog is ace.

If you've got a sweet tooth the caramel chocolate cup is properly 11 out of 10, and the salted caramel rolos were a treat if you haven't got much room left.

  • I've been there twice and avoided the burger both times, simply because you can't move in London for ace burgers at the moment and I fancied something you couldn't get elsewhere.

The half price thing was only till the end of June as far as I knew.

  • Oh and the slaw is one of the best I've had (heavy on the apple, fresh mint and fennel) and is an essential pallet cleanser with all that dark meat

  • Ja, I know I've missed the half price boat, but still! I actually prefer a shake shack style burger to a steakhouse one anyway, but hopefully my better half with order the burger so I can have a bite! I'm going for the french dip i recks!

  • Picked up some livers the other day and thought to give them a whirl.

Floured with paprika, salt, pepper and chilli powder.
    dipped in egg.
coated in semolina and lemon zest.

shallow fried in chorizo infused oil.

served with new potatoes, fried off with some peppers, garlic, spring onion and a slug of port.

It was pretty bloody good, served alongside a cold sherry.

  • I'm going to try another version with hearts, livers and thigh fillets - sort of like those KFC popcorn things

  • went to a crazy party on sunday.

there was a private dirty burger.

    it was so alpha

  • Gizzards should suit something like this fairly well, they are very tough.

Ive made jamaican style patties before containing gzzards, were superb.

Nice. I did liver last night. Sliced lambs liver. Seasoned with smoked paprika, cayenne, cumin, coriander, salt and pepper, oil then flash fried with a thinly sliced onion for two minutes. Add a knob of butter and picked into a wholemeal 'wrap' like a chapati with spring onion, coriander and a bit of yoghurt. Was delish. I ate too much tho. Wrrrrr.

  • Nice. I did liver last night... ...I ate too much tho.

Always the way when you get so much in a pack and the wife won't go near it :-)

  • ^ yup this, I ended up not being able to finish it all.

Can you freeze it? or does that utterly destroy it?

  • I also finally understand Nigella's recipe of adding semolina to roasties - it does and a nice crunchy texture...

  • Hawksmoor assessment....

Ordered between us, Ox Cheek Nuggets, Burger, French Dip, Fries, Slaw and Caramel Cup.

    Verdict = Gout.

  • Shakeshack = Friday

  • Five Guys open on Independence Day, massive fucking win!

  • Going Sunday nom nom nom

  • SS that is

  • Burger binge on Saturday.

  • Fuck a Five Guys. Shake Shack for life.

  • There's a time and a place for Five Guys. It's better than any other fast food chain in the UK. I'd say the fries are better there than at Shake Shack too.

  • "Vegetarian sandwich does not contain a veggie burger pattie" Well fuck you very much Five Guys. Sadface. Too much meat envy recently with all these burger places!
