Well it's the usual thing where real life gets in the way of the need to put in some serious training for this ride.....
I have done alright this year with the London Classic, a few 40 mile rides and a 70 miler about a month ago, but nothing bigger and this has been playing on my mind as the big day, or is that night approaches....
I had some spare time yesterday morning, so I popped down to the lovely Richmond Park and got a nice ride in of 51 miles. I don't need to extol the virtues of the place, but what I like about it is that it is very cycling friendly and I am never more than 7 miles from home if something happens. Oh and the fact it is full of cyclists on £££ machines, taking it and their 'apparel' ( in the pre Rapha-lite days this was known as 'clothing'...) very seriously just adds to the appeal.
I've also been thinking about what I need to do to my bike, so have ordered some new tires, a chain and sprocket, so aim to get all this fitted with about a week to go, so once the day comes, I just need to get on the bike and go. Also entre nous, I'm now rocking a custom 853 stem which Ryan @ Oak has just built for me (his first one ever). This has made my bike feel stiff as anything upfront (sorry if this is double entendre territory...) which I am loving.
I hope all is going well for you all and see you on the ride.
Greetings to each and every one,
