  • i see.

  • Anyone have the details for Goldtec?
I had the same as Lenni just mine was laced proper.. i need a new shell

  • FFS, have you never heard of a popular search engine?

  • nope

they keep sending me to defence, security and agriculture control systems.. bit heavy for fixie skiddie usage. the rest is all forum noise

    ahhh

they are called betd.. not goldtec... wankers!

  • ??? But when you put Goldtec into Google do you not see the first two hits both take you to the correct place. You need to get your Google looked at :-)

  • I was looking for the wrong thing; goldtec the company home page

the interweb doesn't get any easier, i might have to step away for a while

  • Hi there! Catastrophic failure of a Goldtec rear hub here. Broken flange around 2 spokes that are completely intact. How did it happen? "Virtually indiestructable"?? The hubs are/where definitely the best part of my bike and they may have seen no more than 1k miles of very gentle dry ride...
I urgently need a replacement. The hub gave me a rather generous 46mm chainline but, apparently, the new Goldtec hubs have a standard 42.5mm chainline (...and a different colour). The best option I have identified at the moment is probably "Paul components" (expensive!) that should give a 44mm fixed and 48mm free chainline (Why such a difference?).
Please, let me know if you know a decent rear hub I can use without replacing BB. 36h, possibly fixed/fixed. I will buy a new one ...I feel rather desperate! I need to figure out the possible options. There is no point in saving money on the hub itself, considering that I need somebody to rebuild the wheel (not able to do it myself) ...possibly a new BB...aaah!
    Many Thanx !!!

  • Get another goldtech hub. Or send it back

  • Who built the wheels?

Were they new or did you buy them 2nd hand?

  • Every brand has a degree of warranty failure, you might have been very unlucky to make up the small percentage that make up GoldTechs

  • I bought a complete new wheelset from Goldtec/Betd 4 years ago. Never messed around with the wheels, never replaced a spoke...never had a puncture!
If I buy a new Goldtec hub, the chainline will be very different, that's my problem...
    Thanks!

  • I bought a pair last year, have ridden a lot more miles than that on predominantly very bad surfaces and they are golden. If I was going to build another workhorse wheelset would I get them again? I don't need to, they just keep going. I think you've been unlucky as I bought them after hearing great first hand feedback and preferred to support a UK manuf. Contact Goldtec and see what they say.

If you can't get a 46mm c/line I've used spacers between sprocket and shoulder to space sprockets outboard a little. 44.5mm to 46mm should be possible. If you really don't care about saving money on hub and are looking at the price uptick anyway then Royce have a new high flange double fixed that has a wider c/line .. I think around 44.5 or 45mm, will check it if you need.

  • I could be completely wrong, but I have heard from a few people that these hubs often crack around the spoke holes? seems shite if it is a problem, especially considering the cost of em.........

  • These are the spacers you would need http://www.velosolo.co.uk/shoptrack.html scroll to CNC Threaded Cog Spacer Kit

  • They also have an exact 46mm chainline converting the XT front disc hub http://www.velosolo.co.uk/shophub.html

  • All UK made hubs are CNC'd off blocks of alu billet which is sort of OK but reliant on the aluminium arriving at the CNC machine being perfect. Which it can't be. And then you have to make sure they dont get corroded by salt etc.

Taiwan/Malaysian stuff like Shimano hubs are forged which gets all your metal grains aligned properly and only then get CNC finished and anodised. I have never seen or heard of a Shimano hub failing.

  • Mr Shimano sold his soul to the devil many years ago to ensure it didn't happen.

  • They also have an exact 46mm chainline converting the XT front disc hub http://www.velosolo.co.uk/shophub.html

You can have pretty much any chainline you like from a converted disc hub, but around 46 gives a dishless wheel. Also much easier to add spacers to a disc hub, because you don't run out of threads like you do with conventional track hubs - I've yet to see one I'd trust with more than about 1mm of shimming, as the lockring threads aren't long enough beyond that.

  • Thanks for comments and for moving my thread here.
I am not demanding a new wheel from Goldtec, but at least I expect a reply to my email and some sort of advice. After all, they built the hub and the wheel that I can describe as 'newish' in terms of real use, even if I bought it 4 years ago...disappointment all around.
Anyway, I definitely need a new hub! No point to replace it with an identical one...because it is not available anymore! I can live with 2 hubs that do not match...hopefully. Any feedback on "Paul Component"? Too expensive? Better than Goldtec? cheers!

  • I've got some Paul hubs and have put them through hell... Would definitely reccommend them.

Personally I'd try and get goldtec to sort you out though, if it is a the case of mild use and failure, they may well help.

  • If Goldtec are willing to replace and you end up with a new one with 42mm chainline, just get the new BB and be done.
