Half hearted swim at Ironmonger this morning just to actually do something. More excitingly, off to Shepperton for a swim this eve. Apparently lovely and deserted in the evenings. A few laps there, no plan - should be good.

what temp is it at shepperton.... apparently i need to get my wetsuit out of the wardrobe...

Hey, what temp is Brockwell and local lakes at the moment ??
Brockers = balmy. I'm not good with numbers but definitely something teen and very pleasant. Very clear too. On friday I had an almost uninhibited view of the dead bees and peeled off knee plasters floating across the bottom.

People have been swimming my local lake (bray) without wetsuits although they look like plucked turkeys when they get out so I'd say a wetsuit is advisable unless you are particularly hardy or insulated...
I felt a bit too warm by the end of the swim in the thames on saturday but then I managed to beat my previous pb in a tri by 6 minutes so I was working quite hard...

15.5 according to their website. The cold panic breathing up to the first buoy is almost non-existant now. Pretty perfect temp with wetsuit and hat i reckon.

My mate did a 10 hr non-wetsuit swim in a lake in Birmingham over a month ago, so I'm guessing the lakes around London are more than temperate enough right now.
Going down to see him off at Dover this weekend - hoping he may be the first guy across this year...

I'll be running to and swimming at bray lake on saturday morning if anyone want to ride out and join me. Going to do 2.4k and see if I'm brave enough to go for a third lap to take it up to 3.6k which feels bonkers as 8 weeks ago I wouldn't have made it 200m.
I feel as though my technique and fitness improves every time I'm in the water, although there's still a long way to go, as sunday showed when I got "chicked" at 750m despite the ladies starting 5 minutes after the men!

Oh well, Dan was meant to go across at 2am today, but forecasts of force 5-6 winds later on meant a postponement till tomorrow. He spent the morning bobbing around in the water acclimatising. I was wetsuited, and when I stopped to talk to him, I was getting cold within 5 mins, but he was completely comfortable. Fingers crossed he gets away tomorrow.
Another guy I know doing a wetsuited A2A was pulled 2 miles from the French coast on Saturday due to breathing problems. Sad news, he'd put in a great run to Dover and was making good time. He'd swum about 38 miles though, strong tides.

Too tired for training on Sunday, but moved up a group in training tonight.
:)
Feel like my technique is beginning to hold together no mater how fast I go, it's just the breathing that sometimes breaks down.

My mate landed in Calais last night after 21h25 in the water. Utterly incredible, no-one should have been able to last that amount of time in the water in these temperatures. Delighted for him, he's worked for that for years.

To anyone who uses London Fields Lido...
I've got some time off next week and was going to head down there. What kind of time is quiet on weekdays? Maybe straight after the pre-work rush, like 8.30am?
Am hoping that coz its before school holidays it wouln't be crammed full of people coming to sunbathe / piss about

Yup, i'm in there at 8.15 and it's busy then, but almost empty at 8.30. It'll fill up again soon though with freelancers who goes for a dip before their broadway market breakfast

I'm going tomorrow, and I'm timing myself for a 750 loop as I need to know roughly how fast I do that and then doing 2 x 1.2km loops .
Get to ride my mtb there as well = win

Just under two miles done :)
750m 14.15
1200m 22.40
1200m 23.55Technique was poor today, but i felt like i swam straight at least and really I'm just pleased that despite a hangover I managed to drag myself out.
Rally love being in the water and watching bubbles come past me, I even saw a massive carp swimming along the bottom today!
Just remember to bury the potatoe in the garden afterwards.
