No, you have no grasp of how elegance relates to design principles.
You've said many many times that you don't care for weight- and that is fine, it's your prerogative- but you need to accept that this is your own prejudice- not a universal truth.
If there is a choice between two items that work identically but one is lighter than the other then that to me is preferable as it is more elegantly designed.
No. You have a poor grasp of how money relates to performance. Weight is a consideration for me, just a very minor one. As for the perform same job just lighter statement, then you're looking at increased cost or reduced durability. There's no free lunch, no matter what their marketing department claims.

My arse.
You've gone on and on and on about how none of us need any more performance than a Specialized Allez can give - so we are to a man using bikes way beyond what you judge to be our "level" as cyclists.
Yes, there is an increased cost for buying the best components- but that's a bit like pointing out that the sky is blue.
You've set out your stall with "Weight is a consideration for me, just a very minor one" just be honest about it- and stop applying your own views to the rest of the world.
What you are doing is the equivalent of saying "Vegemite is the best spread"- it's an opinion, not fact.
In your opinion weight is a low priority to deal with on a bike- and that's fine, you compete in high power short distance high pain-threshold hill climbs and long distance TT's, neither of which require a light bike.
In my opinion I like how a light bike rides, so I have one.
Neither of these opinions invalidate the other.

What utter tosh.
Where have I mentioned an Allez? Where have I said people shouldn't have a machine that 'performs'. You are desperately clutching at straws here because you're taking it personally.
Where did I limit myself to performance, I'm talking about weight reduction, I made no statement about not trying to gain performance advantages through better materials and better designs that results in a stiffer, more aero, or more durable product with less rolling resistance or whatever. I have specifically shit-canned people paying over the odds for things like a 30g reduction in the weight of their seatposts when a perfectly functional and more durable alternative can be purchased for a quarter of the price.
Stop applying my views to the rest of the world? What are you talking about? It's a discussion forum. It's all about people's views. If you don't like mine, weight weenies is right over there and I'm not on it >>>>>
That's great, you have a light bike, I'm so happy for you. It must be really nice carrying it up stairs and save you loads of time on your commute? Good luck in the Tour.

Technically weight is a minor consideration. Within the realms of your average road bike (6.5kg - 8.5kg).
But I'd still rather ride a 6.5kg bike. And I can relate to Dammits use of the word elegance.
But then I just built a fatbike with Ti rotor bolts, and alu bottlecage bolts. So I cant claim to bring any sense to the argument.

CX-rays are about 4.4g
I just recieved the spokes for my next build. 4.1g rear spokes, and 3.6g front spokes. Cheaper than CX-ray, with a far better aero profile than DT aerolite, and a better black finish than Pillar.
CN aero 360
CN aero 424http://www.cnspoke.com/products/Spoke_MAC/aero/aeroExtra.htm
Saves 23g on a 20/24 wheel build (assuming the real light ones are only used on the front). Which will get Hippy all excited. Cheaper too.

The true test is now to see how long they last. Once you've done a couple of years I'll add them to my list of 'maybe'.
Anyway, wheelbuilding, I leave that to others >>>

Get a room.
You both want bikes for different things.

I have the same argument from the other side, with a mate of mine thats into fishing.
'why the fuck does your rod cost £££s more than mine??'
'Its lighter, stiffer, and stronger'
'I cant see it earning its cost back in fish mate....'We all have a commercial vice. First world problems etc.....

At least with fishing there is some kind of potential return: dinner. Cycling just makes me want more dinner.
-
• #115
What's not to like about that?

• #116
Nothing - I like dinner.

Mediterranean chicken..

Fresh trout grilled with almonds. Gone fishing!

I understand old gas-pipe bike frames have been used as ground bait for pike in inner city canal fishing.

Do you know if these need slotted spoke holes in the hubs?

They are only 2.2mm wide so they wont require the hub to be slotted. Most hub drillings are around 2.6mm.

You mean "dibs"
red veloplugs are lighter than bar tape
and so is electrical tape, both used on wheels
