  • This will be taking place again this year with many more schools and boroughs involved. We really need some people to help out on they day with reffing and bike checks. Last year was brilliant. Here is some more information:

"Just a quick update on the Interborough Tournament. The date is now confirmed as Thursday 27th June at Power League on Forest Road, Hainault. The tournament itself will run from 1pm to around 5pm and we expect to have 12-16 teams of Year 7/8s.

It would be great if LHBPA could help with supplying referees and maybe putting on a short demo of how the game should be played. We have 4 courts so plan to run 4 games at a time for the preliminary rounds and then probably go straight to semi-finals. This would mean that we'd need at least 4 refs for the afternoon."

Can anyone help out at this please? (I'm marshalling a ride of 300 school children around Hackney until 3ish but will get the train over for the finals!)

    Thanks,

    Jess

  • Hey Jess on a related topic, there's a new player at Souths called Martin, who happens to be a teacher and was hoping to get in touch with you about setting up polo at his school.

    Hopefully will PM you...

  • In krakow. Sounds good rad.

    Has PMed, cheers Louis.

  • As said at the meeting, I'm down for this.

  • He's stays West and plays at London Fields and there's another beginner David who turned up today who happens to be a teacher too!

On another subject matter, there's a kid who has been playing at Downs on my bike who says he's from the Petchey Academy but who will be joining the school's polo program soon. He's good but somehow did not know there's polo at his school.

    Can help.

    Will pm.

Edit: Checked my diary, busy until 2.30 in Essex. Could be there by 3.30.

  • glad youve seen this Ideal, grow your league!

  • Ha, do it!

  • It looks like a large chunk of London polo will be in Poland for this, but we really need at least 4 people to ref. I'm definitely in for it, mainly because last year it was so awesome. Easiest way to support next generation polo players!

  • It looks like a large chunk of London polo will be in Pololand for this

    Fixed.

  • Yup I'm out for Euro reasons I'm afraid

  • Thanks for helping out with this Paul.

Are there any other people around to help? Ideally, they need 5 reps...

  • This is happening this Thursday, if anyone's plans have changed and they could possibly be free to come and help I'd really appreciate it. I'll need to email the guy organising the tournament telling him how many people we've got coming at some point, so if you think you can help out please drop me a PM.

  • ask Woody (woodrow) bet hed be interested

  • Soz, I'm not free

  • I'm busy (drinking in a park), but are these school gigs paid?

  • I would happily donate as little of the fee as I could get away with to the LHBPA...

  • Ouch

  • Actually, I could potentially help. We'll see how much work I get done before Thursday. What's the plan for getting there? 40 miles on a polo bike sounds shit.

  • Penge was paid (a tiny bit: £40 each?). Most people passed their funds on to the LHBPA.

I assume the school gigs aren't paid as it's never been raised at a meeting (as far as I'm aware)?

Josh/Jess/James will know more I imagine.

    badum tish

  • Sorry, I can't make it.
Last year was really really awesome , so glad it's happening again!
Best thing was how easy it was to organise kids who are used to school sports events - nobody wanders off or gets lost (etc etc) so everything was super smooth and easy!

  • Thanks to Max and John for sorting some extra equipment for this at short notice btw! Cheers to everyone who's gonna try and make it over too. Would someone mind taking some photographs please?

  • Right, just saw Geoff from Trailnet and he said you can get the central line almost all the way there. If you want to take your bikes, just ride!!! I asked if they could cover travel expenses and he said yes so please keep your tickets.

There are over 100 young polo players taking part! :)
