This is awful, damn whiners ruining an innovative console. Does this mean that developers won't be taking advantage of cloud processing now that it's not required for users to be online? Sharing digital games sounded like a dream come true...damn. The worst part is, people were bitching over non-problems. Everyone has an internet connection, and whoever buys used games at GameStop is an idiot anyway. The same games are almost always cheaper brand new on Amazon anyway. Laaaaame.
Here's irony climbing Everest, it's funny how all those comment sound like drivers complaining about people riding bicycles.

See what did I say its too early to count Microsoft out. They actually do listen to feedback - Sony on the other hand have a history of not listening!
Whilst the console games won't be region locked. I bet you the Bluray and TV content will be.

blu-ray is, but that's not MS/Sony fault, that's the movie studios fault.
SCA/SCEE/SCJP originally wanted Blu-ray totally region free. Sony Pictures refused to get involved if that was the case
-
• #8208
to be fair, most blu-rays ARE region free regardless of what they say on the box

As long as you've got a Radeon HD 7950 with Boost or a GeForce GTX 660 Ti!
Ordered the new GTX 780 :D
Quite fancy getting skyrim and seeing how many mods I can run at the same time before shit gets shit...

Microsoft please remove the need for Kinect. I don't really fancy being on big brother just to watch netflix.
Also isn't the ps4 substantially more powerful, meaning we'd see a much bigger gap in terms of game quality? If so i'd lean more towards the PS4.

As with last gen, developers sandbag the game to the lowest common denominator.
exclusives will push the envelope, but your not going to see a game looking amazing on one and shitter on the other.
unless you compare pc to console, but then you are a gimp if you do that. -

Also throwing this out there...
What about the long rumoured/awaited Steam box?
Steam have recently released the new beta for the client and there is some code regarding the sharing of games.
If they can do this properly I think it has the potential to be incredible.

I think my PS3 might be dead, or at least dying :(
Saving a game last night when it beeped three times quickly and turned off. Attempts to restart it just resulted in the three beeps again and it turning off with a flashing red light. Earlier the fan had been going full speed which its never done before, but a reboot sorted that.
So it sounds like overheating (fuck you, summer) in which case I can hopefully get it running long enough to copy some game saves onto a USB stick. Might be a good idea to see if I can unclog any dust that might be blocking vents, although in hindsight I should have probably done that before now.
Shit timing obviously. The Last of Us was consistently awesome (despite having to backtrack a couple of hours because of critical ammo shortage, had just got back to my previous point when it died). If I can't get it repaired it looks like I'll have to buy a new one just for TLOU, GT6 and GTA5.

Does it have anything to do with the reports that the latest software update is causing problems?
-
• #8215
Don't think so. Only system update I've applied recently was on Friday, the broken one was released on Tues and had already been pulled before I read about it.

Sounds like over heating, try and clear the vents out, also is it enclosed space?
my old phat went the way of YLOD months after suffering symptoms you are describing.
if you don't have PS+ I'd back up your saves fairly regular and be prepared to buy a new console. -

The idea it's watching arouses me, keep it on. Besides, the voice control is pretty good when the remote goes missing and I'm guessing it'll get better.

TBF Steam is actually really shit for that. Ever wanted to play games offline on Steam because you lost your connection unexpectedly, but you didn't set up the "offline access" thing using the internet first? Then YOU LOSE.
Also, "out of shape 20 year olds" is probably optimistic.

a lot of those arguments are bullshit though, sounds like it was written by an angry xbox fanboy who has read 'how to argue a point like a religious, corporate or government spokesperson'
I value privacy and the right to use things i've paid for in a fair non monopolistic manner over slightly bigger game-worlds. a lot of those arguments focus on insulting the person who disagrees and using the flawed 'if you have nothing to hide why do you need privacy' logic that governments both sides of the pond have been using to erode everyones civil liberties under the guise of doing it to benefit them.
the sheer fact sony have produced a comparable system without having to resort to such tricks just highlights that microsoft were trying to cut corners and if they truly wanted to innovate they could easily have done so without the need for shortcuts that massively inconvenience the end user and provide just as fucked up a user experience as all of their other offerings since windows xp.

PS3 is alive again for the time being, backing stuff up right now. Assuming a PS4 is somewhere in my future, am quite tempted to sign up to PS+ now and make sure there's a copy of things online as well.
Complacent to paranoid in the space of 24 hours.

I was kinda looking forward to the new xbox 'features' bar the fact that it worried me due to my shite internet connection... as much as I'm not as angry as that guy ^, I still think it's a shame they didn't stick to their guns. It's not like they're going to make up a huge amount of lost sales this way, most people who didn't like it, probably still don't like it due to the fact it could be easily implemented in the future.
Who knows. I'm glad I'm out of it for this gen. I'll wait till something actually awesome comes along I think.

Why couldn't the sharing and always online thing apply to digitally downloaded games and keep the status quo for dvd-based ones?
It's just looks like a massive flounce on microsoft's part.

I must be missing a big picture, but currently I can buy and download games on Xbox Live, what's the main problem?
although I do want Ryse.
Hahaha there's always idiots
