  • So I didn't like risers on the Pomp and didn't like* the Integralters on my Principia so...

    *wasn't flexible enough for

  • Looks ace! Spray the frame to match the forks?

  • Could do, I quite like the brown though, think it goes well with the pink cables.

  • ridiculous

    in the best way

  • now that's what the fuck I'm talking about, good work

  • The pink cables would stand out more against a black frame! Do it!

  • More pics of pomps - my workhorse / commuter pomp.

Nice one! What are the specs (mudguards, brakes, pannier rack,..)? I'm planning to build a singlespeed commuter and i'm quite liking your setup..

  • polo heads. if I use 26s on my pompetamine and get a crank that's only 140mm, will pedal strike be avoidable? I understand that the bracket shell will be close to the ground. thinking of moving to 26 but can't really justify going for an oak or 14 frame, much as I'd love something like Jimmys fire engine or Chris Pickerings grey one.

  • Mielec? Two players in Manchester now have (different) custom polo frames. As far as I know, you're looking at about £150, so even cheaper than a Marino.

  • Speak to Ali, he used to run 26 on his pompetamine.

  • does he even post ? or maybe you mean in real life.

  • also if I was gonna get one I'd prefer to go local for a fit, easy redress if there's a problem, and support nearby businesses, rather than go the cheap imported route.

  • Define local, Poland is in the EU and isn't as far away as Peru or Taiwan.

By supporting the Polish economy, you'll be helping to reduce the number of them needing to come over here and take our British jobs.

  • I can hardly go to Poland for a.fitting or easy redress can I...

  • anyway shorter cranks. yay or nay.

  • Could pop over to Poland next weekend, I think quite a few people might be.

  • I'd stick some 26s on as is, and see if the bike feels as weird as I reckon will. If you're happy with the handling stick some shorter, narrower cranks on and the smallest pedals you can find.

Krakow is in the South, Mielec is in the North West.

  • S'all abroad innit.

  • I'd second the idea of a mielec, lets face it if you get a pomp you're not exactly going to head up north to get it replaced?

Anyway, it will depend on how big the tyres you go for are? Big 26s can be pretty close to narrow 700s in total diameter. Work out the radial difference, I think you'll find that 140 is a massive over reaction.

I've gone front 26, which will lower the bb by aprox half of yours, I'm still using 170 and I don't get pedal strike unless I try to.

  • I've already got a pomp Louis. but if I am going to bit a specific polo frame for my body shape then I'd want to buy it in London and be able to talk to the builder in case there's any problems.

  • Get an Oak, no problemz ;)

  • Fitting 26" wheels f&r to a pomp will lower the bb 30mm, if you use the same width tyres, causing loads more pedal strike. It'll certainly make toe overlap significantly better but wont change things like head tube angle or tt length which is what I presume your after. Popping a 26 in the front only will sharpen the ht angle, reduce toe overlap the same as above and slightly lengthen tt. And will only lower the bb by about 12mm. I'd say try Louis med pompino before wasting money on wheels or new frame

  • The thing is, he's not going to be using the same tyre size... Or to be more specific, the frame is made to work down to 700c x 18mm tyres. If he goes 26 x 1.1 he'll lose less than 30mm, but chances are he'll go for at least 1.35... I think most polo players are more like 1.5 - 2, which would almost put him at the same point as 21mm 700 tyres, right?

All this is pointless, IMHO, as everyone's freewheel there's no reason for pedal strike. Just keep the turning side pedal away from the bottom of the stroke.

  • ^ While pedal strike can be avoided for anything where there's a bit of comepetiveness it's nice to not need to work to avoid it.
