  • Thanks. Once all the heavy breathing and bright lights were out of sight and sound behind me, I just settled in for the rest of the way, but it was by the quicksand that I suddenly wished I had a 16t or 17t on the back rather than a 15t for the remaining drag through and beyond Hunsdon.

    There was quite a lot of mental driving from people between Woodford and Shoreditch last night - I think I hit it at just the wrong point of chucking out time. It generally made me tense up more than I'd have liked, exacerbated by the increasingly loud clicky cracky noise coming from near my BB. Having looked into it this morning, both my pedals were starting to loosen off. Same thing happened on another bike recently. You ride them through freezing cold temps and all is well, and then suddenly there's a warm spell, various bits of metal expand, and everything starts to fall apart; which is similar to how I react to warmer weather.
