BIG TRANSFER NEWS OF THE DAY
Johnny Russell has officially signed!
Also, Leeds should beat Liverpool in a cup competition this season as they've signed the oaf that is Matt Smith from Oldham.

I was referencing the team from longer ago. That thought they were still relevant.
A team I haven't seen but have read about in the guardian premier edition aka the blizzard.

Well, he deserves some credit....turning down Liverpool and holding out for us
Yeeah....loads of credit. Annual relegation battles. No sense of progression.
FFS Steve Bruce finished higher with Wigan than Martinez!

Can someone tell me what Moyes' record vs big 4 clubs was?
-

Chalfie, you're probably all over this already, but made for interesting reading on my part.
Incentivised contracts, bonuses, and whats the next big analytical metric to figure out a players worth..

That's interesting! Those two names and numbers game have been in my twitter feed last 2 weeks or so.
The thing about incentive contracts reminds me of the power of nightmares doco. And game theory (fuck you jack!). It's surprising, from first glance, that paying someone a bonus for more asissts leads to more passing rather tthan shooting when in "the red zone".

moyes didn't do very well against liverpool in his time
thanks -
• #83015
moyes is like kid in sweet shop isn't he
or actually more like a really tight scottish kid in a sweet shop with someone elses money
his eyes are bigger than his belly
fergie used to take a couple of seasons to build his " new teams " moyes is giving it a go in two weeks

• #83016
Who is he buying then dicki?

dicki, he's probably doing what Fergie wouldn't or couldn't. Look at the squad, realise its shortcomings and buy in to solidify the whole. You need to refresh that midfield and bring in some quality, kagawa, giggs, anderson, cleverley, scholes, carrick, does not a frightening center of the park make..
-
• #83019
11 points ahead of everyone else... shortcomings ?
i guess the other teams are gonna spend this summer

@Cornie: but yet it won the league.

Hardly a vintage season though. Everyone was quite shit - Utd were just more consistent.
-
• #83024
well lets hope liverpool are more consistent next season
-
• #83025
original version of the post made mention of that, but couldn't be arsed to write it again after deleting it.
yes they won the league, but it felt more by default than anything else. Everyone else is re-upping, so Utd need to do the same, and midfield is where Fergie has seemed to do the least over the years, so Moyes will have to do the most.
Also not sure about the futures of Welbeck, Nani, Valencia, Young, not sure I'd want any of them, above what the other top four teams can muster..
