... We have spoken with the lovely Katherine at Lock 7 and she is working on a special vegetarian menu and getting ready to open up super early for us tomorrow morning
does that mean there's no meaty fry-up? I was rather looking forward to a special treat - bacon and eggs. Never get them at home (kashrut)
...Also, my friend Neave is going to come along tonight (probably meet you all at the London Bridge meeting point) with a small film crew to film the ride and get some vox pops/short interviews...
blimey, I'd better put on some make-up

I'm out. Rowdy gathering in my house has meant limited sleep when I was hoping to get 3 or 4 hours has been more like 1. And I'll need more than that to get through tomorrow with my mum in town all day. Gutted : (
Am too old for communal living!

NB: I was trying to sleep whilst all this was going in, not partaking. Harumph. It's not as if I told people I was going to bed/needing to sleep or anything. Harumph. Again /grumpy

Well I was going to have a sleep this evening but ended up cycling all over town dropping off tshirts and sorting DunRun. Too much work, not enough Alex play time.
And now I'm on here at 1.45am instead of doing the ride!
Might just turn off my phone and give my puter away for the whole of August...

If anyone wants yet more Summr Solstace frolicks:
Event happening on One Tree Hill (Honor Oak) this evening. Sounds interesting - borders Southwark/Lewisham.
"You are invited to join us for Summer Solstice 2012 Sacred Celebration and LoveBeam on the actual day of the Solstice ♥
Longest Day and Shortest Night… Midsummer… let’s honour the incredible strength of the sun and the divine powers that create life… let’s
honour Beautiful Gaia and the abundance she gives… let’s honour amazing awesome life itself… let’s honour ourselves and our wonderful
friends… let’s gather together in circles and feel love and unity…let’s beam love, light and peace to Gaia and all Beings… let’s play,
sing and dance in joy… let’s feel alive in nature… together as One…"^ Sheesh, that is rather hippy.

Does anyone have any photos?

I hope you all had fun. I'm sorry I couldn't face coming out at night.
-
• #242
yeah, had a fab night/morning. I only have the one photo - where the sun is seen actually coming up - as opposed to the usual "oh look, the clouds are getting a slightly lighter."
Breakfast was good and good value - £5 tea or coffee and eat as much as you want buffet, but I did miss out on my once-a-year fry-up

Bump - this year's Midsummer Madness ride will be on Friday 21 June.
As ever, the ride starts in Greenwich and arrives at the top of Primrose Hill in time for sunrise - via brief stops at London Bridge, Brick Lane, Soho and Regent's Park.
Breakfast at Lock 7 who are opening early for us.
Join in wherever. Couples have met and got engaged on this ride* :)
- Though not at the same time.

Sounds brill. What time and where in Greenwich?
-

^ good question.
I made a note of this ride a few weeks ago, but I can't find anywhere more info on the 2013 ride. In the past it's been 2am at Cutty Sark Gdns, or 2.30am at Southwark Needle (south side of London Bridge). Also, I had it down as 2am Saturday 22nd June

I'm leading this year's Midnight Madness ride, and have this morning sent out a press release and published details of the ride on this site, my own, and that of LCC.
See...

I still need to confirm the post-ride breakfast venue, as the Lock 7 café is not currently open. I'm also looking for experienced London cyclists to help marshal the ride. PM if you will, but you can find direct contact details on my website: www.sedgemore.com.
Every year we have people turn up on the wrong day, so let's get this straight. The Midsummer Madness 2013 ride takes place in the wee hours of Friday 21 June (i.e., Thursday night/Friday morning). The sunrise is at 04:43 BST on Friday 21 June.
The departure times are:
02:00 Cutty Sark Gardens, SE10 9LW (by the foot tunnel entrance)
02:30 Southwark Needle, SE1 2SY (outside Evans Cycles on Tooley Street)I'm hoping that our mousey comrade (above) will help manage the mass.

Francis, glad you posted... might be a good idea to start a dedicated thread with clear date. I saw some chat about this on Lewisham Cyclists notices.

I did, this morning, and it's linked above.
Again...

The thread is headed by the press release I distributed this morning.
I don't think I can be any clearer about the date. It's Friday 21 June. That one or two people get the date of the solstice wrong is in statistical terms inevitable. You know what it's like.
Really looking forward to this.....
