Pros ride in big groups over long distance. You're average MAMIL, like me, ride far shorter distances, often alone. So you could say we should be in the drops more than the pros. So the gears should be more reachable.

Bullshit aside. All the flash gear we MAMILs buy to look/feel faster, is kinda wasted if its not set up in a way that looks/faster ;)

I tried rotating my bars back/up giving me the position below but found that it made the brake levers very difficult to use in the drops:

So I went back to this position, which I find the most flexible, in that I can use the controls from the hoods and the drops without any compromise:
