Well, maybe we are not talking about the same thing...
I thought these were called cantis:
I had some on my mountain bikes, and even cheap ones with plastic coating are, in my experience, more powerful than calipers (single or dual pivot).
Now, I have to admit I never had any on a road/touring bike, like the ones on the picture of Fignon, maybe they are different slightly in conception...?
