Trust Tester and me: it's a fast course.
However, like all such courses, it's only fast on a good day and this is why it would be a tragedy to miss a float morning if you have got a chance to exploit it.
Forget the bloody turbo. Just spend as much time as possible between now and Sunday morning sleeping and eating.
The roads were much smoother than those used by the Hounslow 100 and I've made some aero changes as well as basically riding like I bloody meant it further from the finish - I'd dragged my girlfriend out at 4am so there was no way I was NOT going to do my sub-4hr. I was actually down on power compared to the Hounslow overall so I wonder how much was due to the course/conditions and how much was the changes. F1 was definitely paced better even if the average was lower than Hounslow - very strong last hour today.

Well done!
Lower CdA > more power. -

hippy > lower CdA

He has got aero shoulders though.

and a rough 'leading edge' to separate boundary layer airflow

What AP did it take to go under 4h? Out of interest.
I can play too now.
-
• #4133
AP = ~80% of FTP for me.
I can't quite put my finger on what, but it looks like you're missing something...

• #4134
Skinny! The felt looks amazing!
-
• #4135
Which distances are you going to do out of interest? 100 must be so gruelling.
-
• #4136
100s are fun. Over before you know it. 12s and 24hrs are gruelling.
-
• #4137
Yes I need wheels and my srm from the road bike.
80% sounds fun for 4h. Mental slog a bit. I know riding low tempo for a few hours plays tricks with my mind.
Well done though :) Especially as you'd company watching! Aways sweeter.

It's a mental game. For mentals.
-
• #4139
When's that gonna be on the road, skinny?
-
• #4140
Got to be sadistic really.
30th June for Club 25 mile Championships. Or before that for training.
-
• #4141
You will definitely need to get miles in on that if you want to do your best at the club champs.

I've been riding clip ons on a road bike training for a while, so used to the position and making efforts in that position. Shouldn't take long to adapt.
Though I'll get 20h on it before the end of June, so should be okay. -
• #4143
It won't be the same position though will it? I don't know if Boardman's adaptation drills work or not but you could try those but definitely get some road time on the thing. Chuck some cheap wheels on it and ride up and down a DC :)
-
• #4144
Oh it's not going to be too far off. The road bike had a -17 on top of the headtube. It's low, but the reach is a bit greater.
And yes, thats the plan! I'll just train on it. I'll look up the boardman thing thanks.

Did you smash 4h then this weekend, hippy?
-
• #4146
Yeah, for me, I guess it's a smashing. Knocked another 5min off so now my PB is about where it should've been (3:56). I almost took a 50mi PB for the first half too.

Was happy with my ride at the weekend. First time on this course and, as expected, the cross winds were noticeable but overall it wasn't too windy.
The main thing I noticed in the car on the drive over was that the course looks deceptively flat, but actually it's flat for the first couple of miles and then turns into a very slight drag up to the turn, including a rather unexpected "bump" as you go over the new flyover (it recently replaced an old railway crossing apparently).
I did my usual and sped off far to quickly, then struggled to get into a rhythm until about 5 miles in (half a mile before the turn). Got caught by my minute man just after the turn, but then managed to keep pace with him right up to the finish further emphasizing to myself that I need to work at the "hilly" drags which is where I seem to lose my time over the faster people.
By the end I couldn't have actually given any more which I was happy with.
Final time 24.44 which put me about 30th out of 90 entries and a PB by 7 seconds over my previous 10 time, albeit on a different course to usual.
Entered the De Laune CC open 10 on the Q10/24 this Sat. Will be my first "open" event and also first TT on a course that isn't Bexley. Should be interesting, hopefully the weather won't be as shitty as it is today...

Nice work with the PB. It must be hard squeezing time out of the shorter events.
Don't do too much "managed to keep pace with him" or Deputy Draft will call for pistols at noon.

Cheers hippy. As for drafting there was no danger of that - I was a solid 20m behind him, although from the noise of his disc womming right in my ear hole I'm fairly sure he drafted me up the last mile or so to the turn then backed off so the marshals didn't see him. Sneaky sneaky.

Was meaning to ask before, but does that mean you do most of your training on your TT bike?
Thanks.
They seem affordable priced at ~200 with a veloflex record on.
