  • I honestly thought there were two, one being the full width of the DT > Deathtrap

As bonor said I'd keep a close eye on it as it's still a significant dent, but ride away

  • My Vig is dented in the exact same place, the stays must be pretty thin there.

did you ever have yours checked out?

I cant see Evans going for a warranty replacement because its not really a manufacturers defect.

  • Need recommendations on helmets. It should be light, breezy and cool. Been hearing about Giro being good.

Nope. It's got a slightly smaller dent on the top tube as well, they've both been fine after over 1000 miles.

  • ^^ Giro Atmos is nice. The Lazer O2 is gorgeous too.

  • Try some. It depends on head shape as much as size which is most comfortable. eg, I hate specialized helmets, they are weird and point at the front. But that's only because I have a very flat forehead.

  • kask k50? the 'Unique Up-n-Down hinged adjustment system' feels really nice and secure and it's not too bulky

  • Looking at all rec's, keep them coming!

  • giro ionos or atmos are nice.
    pricey, but nice.
    same with mavic laser.

Since buying this for £90 on Ebay a couple of weeks ago, it's had a full service, new brake and gear cables with black casing replacing the white. New white Fizik bar tape, Michelin Dynamics gum wall tyres (panaracers were recommended, but more expensive and harder to get hold of so these will do for now) and a borrowed brooks saddle which will be replaced with a San Marco concor light or turbo in due course ( opinions on either and whether to get a tan or white or black saddle welcome)

  • I've finished sprucing up my 1981 Mullett, does that mean it's no longer a current project?

its pricey but the catlike whisper is amazing, after a while, you forget you're wearing it!

  • Bell Volt without shadow of a doubt. It's the most comfortable helmet I've ever used (and I've used quite a few) and now the 2012 model (which is the one I have) is going for a song.

  • It's stupid asking for other people's opinions, try some one like Tenners suggested

  • ^ This.

    It's like recommending a saddle.

Nice build! I wish you had a 2A on it though...

  • What's a 2A?

  • It's one of cinelli's stem model.

  • I've just been riding it pretty hard and it seems okay. I think I'll take it in to my LBS tomorrow and see what they say. Pretty bummed out by it.

You could sand down where the dent is and just watch it to see if a crack appears/is visible.

Personally, I think it's fine and wouldn't worry about it

  • What's a 2A?

It's Cinelli's deeper drop version of the 1A for track... dead nice... a bit rare but never too expensive...

  • why would a stem work its way up if its tightened properly?

Because some fat fucker insists on resting their hands on the handlebars while riding the bike. Stems walk up steerers when the imposed load exceeds the preload hoop stress on the steerer clamp, which is usually when you ride over some kind of bump or haul on the bars at the start of a kilo. Leaving the headset compressor in place, preferably with more preload in the adjuster screw than is needed to correctly preload the bearings, eliminates this. Best practice is to tighten the adjuster screw to about 5Nm after tightening the stem onto the steerer.

And now I shall do this, minus the torque wrench business*

*I need a fecking torque wrench

  • Get a bontrager torqkey. They're cheaper and pretty damn good.

  • ^+1
I've got one and it's perfect for the job.

  • I've got the Ritchey Torqkey, which handily comes with three interchangeable bits- Torx, etc.
