Here's another fun 'Which bag should I get' post.
I just need something for day-to-day commuting, trouser/shirt/shoe/lunch combo and some Audax rides. My heart says Barley but perhaps Nelson for the size increase? My mind says Super C Audax (same capacity as Barley?) for ease of access? I'd rather have more room than I need than not enough though.
Apologies for being a fuck nut.
I'd go for a Nelson longflap. I have been using one for carrying food and clothes to and from work everyday for about 3 years and wouldn't want anything smaller (I also always keep a waterproof jacket in there too, in case of emergencies).
Also, I'd defo get the longflap over the standard Nelson. I can't see why anyone would ever bother with a non-longlflap version, the long flap (which you don't have to use) just makes the bag more useful, should you need it. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail etc etc.

Would A4 folders/books fit inside the nelson long flap **with ** room for shirt, trousers and shoes? A bit ambitious I know but I am looking for an alternative to panniers.

Hey sorry for the random question but I am trying to choose a pair of pedals and I can't seem to be able to start a new post so thought I will post here cause have to take a quick decision :)
So basically should I get the CAMPAGNOLO C-RECORD 305/501 Model or the CAMPAGNOLO nuevo record pista pedals?
Cheers ,

Perhaps look in the correct topic would be the best choice, like Any Question Asked, or Current Project, or even those many pedals topic you can find while searching.

"Extra wide to take A4 files" guess that's what I want!

I find it good but amusing that new riders have discovered what traditional cycletourists new years ago.......let the bike carry the load. I know it's better for off roaders to carry a back pack but at other times a bag on a rack a far superior. I used to use a Camper Longflap when commuting and apart from being able to carry loads of stuff they are great at bashing wing mirrors on Cars!
Saddlebags are even approved of by cats!

Proper older bag there, still in use I hope?

Yep, just sold it on to a new user. It had a few patches but not in obvious places.
A well worn Carradice shows that you've been places.

Good to hear that it's not on a shelf somewhere, or worse, a bin.

Did have to bin one recently. A mouse had made it's home in a load of bike bits and the bag made a tasty snack and then an even better toilet. You would not have wanted it anywhere near your nose or your bike.
I've got a couple that are a bit old and battered and will be up for sale at the next Ripley (Surrey not Yorkshire) cycle jumble on 29th June.

Interesting. Will have to pop down.
FWIW the Barley's a bit pokey for anything more than a big D-lock, a packed lunch and a small change of clothes. You definitely can't get a normal sized laptop or an A4 folder in there.

SQR Slim, made by Kelly (a new one for the list) bought for commuting, pleased to find my Eagle Creek shirt carrier fits perfectly as would A4 files etc.

Been staring at my bike and bag, replete with rubber bands, for about an hour and a half now wondering what to do. I think I'm fooling myself if I say I'm totally happy with this bodgery....
Quick update on this, which will only add to Carradice's fine reputation.
First got in touch with the Scottish bloke who manufactures the bagman racks on Carradice's behalf. He said he'd sell me an Expedition size Bagman - in Titanium - for about £50. Said I'd get back if I couldn't find a steel one.
Found one on ebay, but without the QR. Got sniped (schoolboy ebaying).
Then phoned Carradice. Turns out they have a few Expedition sized racks kicking about even though they don't sell them any more. I asked how much for a QR version and was told £30 (as compared to the £43 I paid for the Sport size).
Returned my Bagman Sport with a note saying thanks and three days later received a Bagman Expedition in the post....with a refund for the difference in price.
Astonishing customer service. They've basically paid me for buying their product.

Susan is up one, black Barley arrived and has been mounted, sans bagman at the moment due to me ordering an expedition by mistake... Anyone want the Expedition bagman 2 (Non QR) for £25 posted?

I've got one. Dunno when I could show it to you but you'd be welcome to have a look at some point. It's very good for commuting and I'll soon find out if it's good for touring.
I have the Super C Audax, same capacity as the Barley but the clips make it easier to open/close, handy when cold, wet and unable to feel your fingers.
