  • Thanks for the replies. They are marathon Supreme 32c, so not exactly massive.

Was thinking about a chain tug as I have a spare, but don't think there is enough room in the dropout - the alfine has kind of keyed washers to keep the cable straight, would have to put it flat-ways outside the dropout and either way I dont know if there is enough thread on the nut to do that safely.

Thanks svendrin, feel a bit daft now, will try a 180 tomorrow if there is one lying around

  • What about bolts with a smaller/flatter head inside your mudguard holding it on. I guess that is where your tire rubs first

  • Surprised that the alfine axle slips. Never a problem with mine. I assume you have those shaped washer things in there as well...

  • Also, has anyone here ever ran a pompetamine frame with 26" wheels? I know otto had 26s on his old polo bike... just thinking about it. I am guessing pedal strike would be more of an issue (cranks are 165) as the bracket would be brought closer to the ground a bit...

  • Try a rivoting the mudguard. The head would be really flat. You'd need a drill to remove it though. MTB rims would lower the bb by about an inch, 650c are a bit bigger but I doubt you'd get marathons for them. A rivot and 25mm rear tyre is th simplest and cheapest solution.

  • Risers came in the post yesterday, fitted CX Pro tyres and hopefully laevers will come today so I can have something like this...

    but with freewheel and cantis.

  • 650c are a bit bigger but I doubt you'd get marathons for them

There is a 650B marathon, at 42mm wide it's about as big as a 700x25 in diameter so it should work with the Pomp geometry but it will be very tight between the chainstays.

  • Not enough random photos of pompinos! Here is mine in a shitty picture...

  • My Ninja Pomp.

  • Purely for appearance I'd spin the seat post round so it's more of a layforwards... Or even get an in line one?

  • ^^ that looks bad ass. Makes me want one again. When will they be 100 quid already???

Wondered what it would look like in pink, although searching for "pompino pink" is not something I would recommend.

  • Hmmm...here's some sneak pics of the new Kaffenback.

That's a vertical dropout obscured at the bottom.

    Pink frame and black forks?

Finally got my pomp built up, nice and dry at the moment so took it for a quick spin in the woods.
gearing seems spot on and the carbon fork, bars and post really smooths out the rutty bits!

  • I've just got back from riding mine, It definitely gets some looks!

and there you thought they couldn't make that frame any uglier.

  • My Pomp now,

  • This Dingle Fixed thing is a load of fun, especially with fat tyres.

  • Beautiful, Mr B. Not envious of your current location at all!

  • ^^
Really beautiful. Stem looks a bit on the short side though

  • Aye, it's a 70mm. Reach-wise it feels perfect.
Makes for quite slow (but very stable) steering though. Wondering whether going 90mm and sliding my seat forward a touch might liven it up a bit and also introduce a tiny bit more compliance into the front end - the oversized bars, cloth tape, straight forks and short stem make for quite a stiff ride right now.
Really should have put Bar Gel under that tape! Anybody know any good alternatives to the overpriced Fizik stuff?

  • Anyone "on here" around the 5'5" mark and can comment on the correct size of Pompino/Pometamine/Kaffenback?

  • I would say S. I am 5'6", riding a S but was previously riding a M, not much difference between the two other than the c. 2cm longer top tube. Was able to run 175 on the M and avoid toe overlap. 165 cranks on a S might help prevent toe overlap but never tried it before.

  • 5.7 riding a sm wi 175 cranks, 128 bb and spds, no issue of toe overlap. Why not turn up to one of the polo sessions. Plenty of pompano polo bikes you could try.

So overall would you recommend it?

Was/is it worth it over just having a flip flop?

    Anything you'd do differently?

On the bars you could always try wrapping a cut inner tube around first. I did this on a set with fizik over the top and it gave a nice extra bi of cusssoning without being too chunky.
