Trying a new bar shape:
Always surprising what a change of bars does to the fit of a bike, these Pro Vibe's bring the hoods back slightly, and up by around 1" compared to the Rotundo I had on before, giving a position very close to that of Ergonova's, but with a deep drop.
The flat section is very wide- the 31.8 clamp section extends quite far to either side of the stem, not that I spend a lot of time there (around town, climbing out of town is a different matter).

^^ i'd love to try the rotundo on my bike if you have them lying around dammit

Sure, they are 44cm c-c though, might be a bit wide?
-
• #78406
perfect! I use 44cm ergonova atm, I'll PM you

I have to admit, when I first saw the Cannondale frame I was a bit 'meh' but it is so good! Chapeau.

Soooo, I was going to do some laps to check out the setup for the fixed criterium I was planning on riding tomorrow. Decided to play with the setup a bit and while tightening the seatpost bolt this happend:
I definitly did not tighten it too much and haven't before.
Biggest question: does anyone know how to fix this?

Maybe I can use some clamp that fits around the frame to still make it work?
Or maybe gluing the crack back together? -
• #78411
Track champ? They all seem to go there.

^^ Yeah no biggie, you just need a replacement seatpost clamp with an ID (internal diameter) to match the ED (external diameter) of the top of your seatpost. For this you'll need a set of digital calipers, it shouldn't be too hard to find.
This is assuming that the clamp comes off the frame. A close inspection for seams and perhaps a few careful upwards taps with a hammer should tell you. If the clamp is part of the frame then fixing it will be much more difficult.
If you're in a rush to make this criterium tomorrow then just pop into your LBS, have them take off the clamp, measure your post and sell you a replacement clamp. Should take 15 minutes max, and £10-20.

TC clamp is part of the frame.^

You're looking at either using a wedge post or welding up yer crack.

It's probably better to have a steel wedge instead of reusing the alu post.

It is
TC clamp is part of the frame.^
This
I assume I'd have to make one myself?

yes bu its really not difficult.
of course his was made for a bike with split seattube, where the bolt was accessible from underneah - but with a bit of tinkering you can make one work for a normal one too.
of course a hose clamp would be less hassle. -

you really would go to an lbs to remove a seat collar? and pay money for it?

I think the insinuated payment was for the new collar.
Doesn't matter anyway, the collar is integrated.

^^^ You're talking about a hose clamp style seatpost clamp right? Not an actual hose clamp?
I figure there must be a clamp out there somewhere that would fit..
-
• #78422
Why wouldn't a hose clamp work in a pinch?
-
• #78423
TIG the post into the frame?
Voila, instant ISP.
-
• #78424
Would it hold up?
Edit: not about the tig welding, about that ^^ -

I've seen a Pista Concept with this failure and the guy got it welded back together, been like that for 3 years now I think with no problems. Just find an aluminium welder.
