You only need 1 shifter+cable+mech+cassette. With 1x you only need a short cage mech. So your shifting is a touch better, and chain slap is reduced.
^this, I'm running 2x10 (11-36) on 2 bikes and I think I can count on one hand the amount of times the chain has seen the granny. The only issue I have on the Swift (1x10, 11-36) is I run out of gears at the top end, but being a hardtail it's a pretty good indication that I'm going quick enough.
Particularly with one of the newer clutch style mechs.
Or so I'm led to believe.
Might be overkill running a Type 2/Shadow Plus on a short cage, I notice no chain slap at all on my setup.
Also, XX1 can be run on a 10 speed and that negates the need of a chain device.
