Ouchies!

Not so unlucky as you Indra. No fork failure and no spokes in leg :)
Single-handed because fixing bag strap + big gust of wind + dodgy road surface + capcurse whip-turned front wheel 90° clockwise . Endo chumped. Broke most force with hands but still took a gash to the face.
Scuffs and wheel will need truing but bike is otherwise ok :)

Send Waterloo Road some flowers....Stay Safe dude.

Yeah, heal up soon Waterloo Road.

took a gash to the face.
Not all bad then.

Me. Probably by an uninsured driver.
Broken ribs and deep cut to the chin. He drove off before the Old Bill arrived so they are after him and it's all on helmet cam.
I got the bike back from the LBS today. They have done a great job! The cockpit has been upgraded and I'm so looking forward to getting back on it tomorrow. ^_^

Just got knocked off my bike in usual SMIDSY situation. Riding down Stroud Green Road, bin lorry was stopped in the other lane with a line of cars behind it. 1st car pulls out to filter past just as I'm approaching. Thought he left it a bit later personally but he left enough room for me. However, car behind without looking pulls out and turns across the road into the side road just as I'm there. I hit the front wing and go over the bonnet and onto the pavement. Guy gets out claiming he was indicating so I was in the wrong completely overlooking that a whole right of way issue. I get up check my bike over, nothing seems damaged, wheels are still true and everything is pointing in the right direction. I banged my knee & elbow but nothing bad. Couple of cars stop and a few people from the street stop and affirm he was in the wrong and one suggested I call the police. Guy initially keeps saying he was indicating and that I should have seen and then starts being apologetic saying it was his fault. Didn't think there was much point in calling the 5-0 so told him to go but to drive with way more consideration as it might not be so minor next time. I guessing his bonnet came off worse with the dent I left in it. Stupid thing was I always wear a helmet and this trip was the first time I didn't have it on as I forgot in a hurry.
As an aside, when I got to Finsbury Park Station, I got shit on by a pigeon. Maybe that was to signify my prior good luck in not getting too injured. -

Oh the old "I was indicating" defence! :) Very glad to hear you're OK, ricky2slicky. Did you take his details anyway? These things should be reported.
Almost exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday but I have (sadly) come to expect sneaky illegal manoeuvres in Camberwell, especially when the traffic flow is slower.
So with a combination of swerving sharply as soon as I saw the nose of the car start moving out - IN TO THE BUS LANE - and screaming very, very loudly to alert the clearly dopey driver, we avoided a collision.
Adrenaline rush for a good 5 miles after that.

Thanks MM. Stupidly I didn't get any details. At first I was so riled up and just kept checking over my bike and my bag to make sure neither were damaged. After doing that I didn't think that the police would have done anything and just told him to be more careful in the future. It's the first time it's happened to me so was completely unprepared (if you can be for getting knocked off). Feel a bit stupid now though.

Poor you. Yes, the shock of these things, together with the adrenaline, can make one feel quite weird and very vulnerable. Have you got someone with you this evening?
-
• #463
Yeh. I don't feel too bad interms of anything other than feeling stupid for not getting the guys details or details from witnesses. I just thought they'd be useless as I was pretty much ok and my bike seemed alright. Guess I know for next time!!

Do have a look at the what to do in case of an accident thread. Hopefully the worst that happens is that you just feel a bit stiff in the morning but you never know

Don't feel stupid. Important thing is that you are alive to tell the tale :)

Got taken out by a left hook this morning on the way to work. Junction of Maida Vale and Carlton Vale.
We were both getting a move on for the lights when he ducks across from the right hand lane to take the left turn. Managed to get a handful of brake and lose some kinetic energy on his wing mirror before going over bonnet and landing on my head. Had time to consider the merits of helmets vs caps on the way down, bizarre how the brain works.
Bust my cycling glasses and fucked my handlebar tape but everything else seems intact.
I will be contacting his insurers when I get home and making sure his no claims bonus doesn't survive. -

bummer, heal up soon.

• #469
Glad you're alright mate. Hate it when that happens.
-
• #470
cheers guys. I'll be good enough to cycle home so I call that a good outcome.

Eeek - hope you weren't hurting too much when the post-bump adrenaline wore off.

Hi everyone!! I may need some help, las Monday 10th of June I had a accident with my bike in Bow Common Lane at 20:23 hours when I was comming back from my job. I was following the traffic pace and one driver tried to overtake me when another car was comming in the opposite direccion, then the car in the front stopped but I was focused in that bloke because he tried to come back to my lane and push me to the pavement, in the end I couldn´t stop and I hit the car in the front with my face and the rear windscreen broke,as a result I have more than 30 stitches in my face. Now I don´t know what I can do, the police is investigating the case but they told me that there are not CCTV cams in that place and I couldn´t take the number plate of the car which tried to overtake me. The cuestion is, I´m not able to work for more than 2 weeks and my face won´t be the same after the accident, who is gonna pay for that?
-
• #473
Sorry to say, but legally, as the 'vehicle' behind, you ran into someone so it's your fault. Of course, from the viewpoint of another cyclist I too would blame the driver who overtook dangerously. However, I am inclined to say that the law is against you, unfortunately*.
*IANAL, I'm only a baby.

Fuck. Sounds awful. Hope you can heal up quick and get on with things.
Here's what I would do. IANAL.
1) report the driver who tried to force you off the road. Make sure an official report is made. There will be a witness, somewhere.
2) contact a solicitor and get advice. There's a solicitors we like thread here, and the CTC recommend some people IIRC
3) try not to worry too much, and focus on healing up -

Eek, fork failure?
