Cheers bud, it's a great story... I've had an eye out for a Dayton elite for a while after missing out on one last year and the fact that they are seldom seen.... There are not more than 3-4 anywhere on the web that I have found. It was late at night, and I was just checking emails before going to sleep (as the wife and daughter were watching essex chavs, or another PMTV show!), and I thought I'd check eBay saved searches quickly, as you do. This popped on with a very reasonable but it now.... I'm always on the look out for these bottles and I pulled the trigger without really checking it. The one picture wasn't very good anyway. When I picked it up from Aylesbury, the old chap told me that his dad had bought it for him new in 1947! He has ridden thousands of miles on it, and only stopped last year when he was knocked off.

The chrome on the lovely durax chainset is virtually gone, as it is on the front fork.... I don't know quite what to do with that... I'm thinking rub it back and see what I'm left with

I have... It looks like an easy project...
I am half tempted to do L'eroica on this, but I don't think I could handle some of the hills with the gearing.... There are two that I am dreading! Although it looks like a tourer, and could handle light tours, it's actually what Dayton termed an 'upright framed model'. So more race oriented. To be honest, just after the war, I don't think many people gave much of a thought to geometry as long as they had some transport! -

Hi All,
Picked this frame up a while ago, attached some old and shit parts I picked up for cheap and has been my winter hack for the past six months. However it's such a good, comfy, fast ride that I'm thinking of building it up with some quality components and would be grateful if anyone could help ID the frame???
As you'll see from the pictures it has a Columbus decal, chrome lugging and Peugeot forks, I'm assuming the frame is Peugeot as well but have no idea of its history so can't be sure...

Almost certainly a peugeot with original forks.
The chainset looks like a Stronglight/Solida (commonly fitted to late '80's Pugs) and if you google the text on that sticker (Thin Wall Cromo Lite) you get hits for Canadian built Peugeot road bikes. Not sure about the columbus sticker - I think that may be a red herring. -

hey guys more pictures or my Raleigh, does anybody have anymore info about the frame? i cant see any markings, i would like to know the model and rough year please.
also would people say its worth spending money on to convert to a fixie??
not worth investing (financially) in. I generally think most bikes should be made ridable however.

Which bars are these guys using?
-
• #3213
from where I'm sat they look like 3T Scatto Ltd
might be wrong though -
• #3214
That's what I thought but they seem to have a round profile the length of the handlebar, the ones on the right anyway.

does anyone know anything about "pendle" bikes???
-
• #3217
chorus graphite levers
or Modolo
-
• #3218

i could be wrong, the little silver skewers just below the hoods made me think they are...

any Romani owners here? mine looks like Romani product for some other company. please have a look.
Stable doors, horses and bolts, but yes, I have a Romani. Do you still have this potential Romani bike to hand?
-
• #3220
^^ It's the hoods, very Modolo. Plus the silver bit on the front of the rh lever is where the M for Modolo would be on the professional model. Could be v wrong too.

Anyone have any clue what cleats these pedals are supposed to take? They are on the spinning bikes at the gym I just joined - the gym claim they are for Shimano SPDs, and they are the right sort of size but as you may be able to see from the photo, they don't have the same structure as a normal SPD pedal so they don't hold the cleat in and you just unclip to the left or right as soon as you start pedalling - there's really nothing to lock them in.
Had a look at previous SPD pedals (the bikes were bought in 2003 seemingly) but nothing seems to fit this spec...

please identify year and model of this FH Grubb, i think it's 63-64 Comet, am i wrong?
-
• #3224
can someone help me identify this frame? it could be a Colnago Super frame?
-
• #3225
It could, but it probably isn't. Though the photographs aren't really detailed enough, Colnago usually put the word 'Colnago' on the top eyes, not 'super' (if that's what it says). Does it have the Colnago name elsewhere such as on the BB shell or fork crown? Do the lugs have the characteristic cutouts?
The whole bike is stunning - what's the story and how did you end up with it - what do you plan to do with it and can we see some more pictures please!!
Could be that the bars are Strata too
