  • The question is, do you get an ARX LTD to match?

The answer to that is most definitely no :) Either stick to the Thomson or find a stealth ARX Team steam.

  • I've got a 27.2 Doric LTD in a box waiting for my Oak to be built- they definitely exist.

I've got 2 on other bikes, and a Palladio Team- issue with the Palladio is that it only works with saddles that have circular rails, i.e. not carbon.

Sorry, yes, I meant the Stealth Team version that Ed posted. You could get the regular Team and LTD versions in 27.2, just not the all-black version. I was tempted by the LTD one but as a fatty the carbon clamp gives me the willies.

  • I've been resting ~80kg on mine for over a year and it's been fine.

  • ^^ i spotted your frame the other day dammit, i think it was your one anyway, is it just awaiting painting?

  • I'm 85kg...ish... at the moment but I'm still not sure about it. I'm looking at the WR Compositi one as it's basically an inline version of the post the frame came with, and it has a nice solid alloy clamp. Finding a dealer has been a bit of a challenge though.

  • Rogan- my Oak? I don't think it has seatstays yet, so painting is still a way off.

  • Pretty sure it does? Unless there a very similar frame knocking about

  • You may be better informed than me, in that case.

  • It was hung up and im pretty sure it has stays

  • Still dialling in the fit. I have to say, the best £2 I've spent all year has been in a plum line to finally correctly measure the saddle tip to BB distance and a level to get saddle position optimised. I'm embarrassed to say that on some of my bikes, my eyeballed saddle measurements were as much as 2 cm off... enough in some cases to realise that suddenly I may need a different (inline or layback) seatpost to what I currently have. Fortunately not for this Donhou though!

  • Still tweaking the fit, but here's the latest incarnation, with a 3T Arx Team stem and a 3T Ionic inline seatpost. I have to say that the seatpost clamping system is fiddly but fantastic if you like tuning. You set the tilt by rotating splines and then adjust the setback separately.

The position may not be super aggressive for some and the stem is a little short (80mm) but it's plenty for me riding around London.

  • Looking good!

  • As much as I want to love this (bar choice and short stem aside - personal preference) everytime I see it, the very first thing my eye sees is the angle between the lower headset race and the line of the paint. It breaks the nice line of the painwork. It's one of those things...if the angle was greater, my mind wouldn't think it should be inline, if it was less, it would be read as following the same line. As it is though, it's right in the middle of that range.

  • Cannot be unseen!^

Whoa yeah, that's a great point. I think that's the problem with going for that kind of paint scheme and I'm not sure how you would address it (other than a repaint). We talked at length about the angle of the black to chrome transitions.

Gonna be tweaking stem/bar combos within my fit parameters once more stuff arrives, but reluctant to move away from horns at this time.

  • Aye but if you go down that route you start looking at the seat collar angle, the line of the stem/bars....

Looks good as is, don't fret, I'd still prefer RB010s and a delicate stem though.

  • I don't think you ever showed us the the headbadge?

also, is the tt very slightly compact? interesting.

  • I think it should definitely have horns, I'm just not a fan of the Mash shape. Nittos with a drop would be perfection. Love the details of the bike though. Today it's the red circle on the pedal that's really yanking my crank...

I'm definitely going to try the RB010s... what are your thoughts on a suitable stem? I guess you're referring to a non-oversized stem as opposed to a particular make/model of OS steam?

I'll photograph the headbadge, it's black and not overly elaborate/amazing and yeah it is slightly compact.

  • sweet bike,love the paintjob

  • Or why not a Donhou Stem?

Tom could probably do something in Stainless/Fillet Pro and Brush it to match the frame

  • ^ this!

    Could even be painted half/half...

  • If he find the bar is comfortable, who are we to says otherwise?

Regarding custom stem, I would wait a lots longer until you know you're 100%sorted on the bike fit, or visit your fitter again to fixed it all in one season.

That's my line of thinking Ed. I'll ride it hard and decide if I need something changed or tweaked in a couple of months.
