Spotted yesterday lunchtime, it was still there an hour later

There is a bike outside my work just leant up against a wall clearly unlocked and it's been there 2 weeks now. Granted its a shitty hybrid but I guess people prefer the challenge of locked bikes.

i think that was sarcasm. that place quickly devours any cable locks like something furious.

once i locked mine to a bollard.... got stolen.

In Berlin, just a quick lockup to buy some mediteranean type foods. I came out to find this. I got almost all of the parts right, lock around frame, through helmet, just missed the final piece.
Ooohhhhh so close. by josephjoaquinmartin, on Flickr -

oooh, you're going to get some tasty comments on here about that.

Had a massive panic when I saw that ^ looks incredibly similar to my mondia. Had to look out the window to see if it was ok, before I realised I was being a numpty.

Saw this on a friend's FB with a comment about her 'poor bike'. She's lucky they left that much of it, with that lock placement

Very lazy thieves - or just taking an opportunity. I am assuming they were quick release wheels, so they took what they could without tools. If they had an allen key or two with them, they could have had the whole bike in about thirty seconds. Like you say, she is lucky to find any of it. Suggest she moves the lock now, or someone will take the rest before she comes back with the new wheels or car to carry it away.

A facebook post of an instagram of a photo on an iPhone of a poorly locked bike?
The hipster irony meter doesn't go that far.

...on an internet forum.
now beat that. -

Dude's called Tim, but is wearing black nail polish. Hipster meter - blown up!

To clarify, that is a photo of my friend's hand holding her phone, with a photo of her friend's bike. Nearly three decades of nail biting dictates I can't wear nail polish.
But yes, the Insta-ception factor is pretty hilarious.

Further clarification: I didn't take that photo up there. In fact, now I can't even work out whose phone/camera/photo it really is.

d lock around frame
helmet through d-lock
helmet strap round bike stand
frame is locked to stand ... albeit indirectly -
• #2894
oooohhh i see the helmet strap isn't ACTUALLY locked to the stand .... FAIL !
-
• #2895
Also, even if the d-lock did make it around the stand.... it is only around the frame. C'mon get at least one wheel too. Well, just one with a d-lock.

I get pretty lazy in this town since there are so many bikes just free locked around. Especially since back home anything not absolutely locked gets stolen. You are right though, I am going to pay for my laziness at some point.
Of course locking the frame to nothing but a helmet is an extreme that I would think even Berlin's thieves wouldn't pass up. Thieves are all pose here, no action.

Ah, Berlin. That explains the easygoing attitude to locking. I would like to check the city out sometime, and it does sound like having a bike while I was there would be cool. You should let me know where you park yours....

Berlin is a lovely city to ride a bike in.

No attitude here. Was just stating that creates arnt all that bad. Its a good atarting point for many. And yes, the search function is very useful. No matter how you lock a bike, if someone wants it that bad they will get it unfortunately.
Yup, they are - I know as I had one and within about 3 weeks had replaced everything due to it being shit. They are not a good starting point unless you account forcing people to learn how to replace wheels/chains/bottom brackets, stem, bars etc etc

And to prove Create owners need help here is one I saw earlier. random locking along with slack chain

This. They are not a good starting point. Perfectly possible to buy a cheap but safe and better designed bike.
If you replace most of the vital components right away, you're closer to a good starting point - but then it's no longer cheap, so why bother?.
But apologies for perpetuating the thread derail. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
