-
• #179
DJ shadow sucks dick live. Croatia is full of forruns.
No real contest

See the list up thread^ most of them will be fixed.
-
• #183
^which in itself does not mean it's a good idea, of course.
But it's a good idea anyway. It's the ideal ride for fixed, you get to try out falling asleep while still turning the pedals.

Ha ok good or bad idea sounds like its a fun one from reading the thread! I'll my self out wit a ticket home this eve.

Very charitably put! You're just an animal. With a bad knee
Ha ha. Touché.
I enjoyed riding with you and Beardy Rob (?) very much, I just needed to get on top of my gear and spin it a bit.
Although the social aspect of the ride was the main attraction I rode the last 60k or so solo pretty quickly which was a beautiful experience, racing towards the sea into the brightening sky.
I'm tempted to ride it late, solo and flat out and catch the sunrise this year.
Just for shits and giggles.
If my fucking knee gets better. Also this year; gears and hip flask.

Am I a lesser man for doing it geared?
-
• #191
No. I think it could possibly be easier fixed though, coz of the whole momentum thing.
There are some nice descents which I got up to 40mph on last year though, it'd be a shame to miss out on that... -
• #192
(by doing it fixed)
-
• #193
It may well be easier fixed in some respects. The rolling terrain is easy to hill bomb, I passed many geared riders on the short climbs. There were some descents where I wished for a freewheel. The main issue for me riding fixed over that distance is not really getting a break/change in position - not being able to stretch while riding or just have a rest.
-
• #194
That's my worry. I did it on a very close ratio cassette and big front so even in my lowest gear I had to bomb every hill or exhaust myself grinding up.
It made a huge difference as I didn't really notice the climbs. There are only one or two where it's necessary to spin up in a tiny gear, I reckon.
It's only the concern about not getting a rest on the descents/not being able to hammer it on the flats (occasionally) that's making me lean towards gears... -
• #195
^^ having said that I really enjoyed riding it fixed.

Out of interest, what bars did you use? I was jealous of the guys on swept bars last year, and was considering a more upright position. Might use my Mungos for the first time, at least then I'll have a choice of positions.

Nothing very appropriate, Cinelli Criterium with 2 levers.

In. I went to a job interview recently and was discussing this with one of the interviewers. He was like "YOU MUST DO IT THIS YEAR" and I was all like "YES!"

I've found the same riding fixed with geared others, way quicker uphill than them but smoked on downhills. Not that that bothers me, different riding styles innit.
Main concern for me is comfort on what will be the longest ride I've done, road bike being considerably comfier.Guess all that matters is actually doing it one way or another, right?

Was it last year that I did the ride with Nitto Promenade bars? I think it may have been. Most agreeable.
And hill bombing - is that where the geared riders all slow down as they change gears, and you have to pull round them and accelerate up to the top? Reminds me of doing the London Triathlon with an singlespeed. Great fun.
Not as decadent as the double rib-eye Shooter's Sandwich I was eating at the same time.
Once consumed I remounted my velocipede and continued towards the family estate on the outskirts of Aldeburgh.
