Looks fun. What did it feel like? As fast as you were expecting or lacking?
Absolutely brilliant.
I wasn't sure what to expect, and was somewhat terrified beforehand, not helped by the Silverstone staff telling me I would need waterproof underwear when I told her which experience I was going to be doing.
Once in the car I calmed down a bit, and the driver left the paddock at Stowe and immediately floored it in a bit of showboating. "OK, he's just showing off, it'll calm down now" I thought, but no. Hammering towards Vale just getting faster and faster, I'm thinking "ohshitohshitohshithe'snotslowingdown!" before he braked as late as possible and went round it at a ridiculous speed and accellerated through Club and up the International Pits Straight. On this and the Hanger straight we were overtaking Ferrari 360s and Aston Martin V8 Vantages going absolutely flat out as though they were just standing still, and by now the fear had been replaced by sheer exhilaration.
The thing is wicked fast. It's geared to do about 150mph and 0-60 in 3 seconds, and weighs just 650kg. The G-forces are astonishing, cos the car generates so much grip in corners, so they are all taken much faster and much later than you would ever imagine. Abbey and Farm were taken more or less flat, you're flung from one side to the other at Village and then, because it's the International circuit, not the GP circuit, you go through the link and actually powerslide round the tight 90° onto the Hangar Straight for a flat out blast to Stowe.
I think it was one out lap, one flying lap and one in lap, but it might have been two flying laps. My ride was just after they had put a fresh set of tyres on and given it the once over, and on the out lap you could see the rubber flying off the tyres. In 10 minutes it was all over, but what a 10 minutes!
