My bike has two little rust holes down in the top tube. I painted my frame with Hammerite to prevent futher rusting. Are there any solutions to fix these holes? Or just ride until it breaks?:p

I suspect the frame has rusted from the inside, painting the outside won't stop that.
I wouldn't ride that and I have a penchant for risk taking.

Frame is knackered. Get a new one.

Try hitting the rusty area really hard with a hammer. Then when you see the pile of rust that is left follow the advice ^ and ^^

Could be swiss cheese inside, once it rusts from inside out...there's no knowing how bad it is.
Turn it into some art for a roundabout but do not ride.

Best way to rust proof a frame is to waxoyl it! it comes in a can used in classic cars , halfords do it each can comes with a tube to fit in nozzle spray into top tube through down tube and stays every quality frame has small holes in stay tubes made in brazing process to release gases its wet and reaches every part of inside tubes then goes semi hard and your frame will never rust on the inside period

Vaseline is an excellent cheap material to rustproof things on the outside also cheap.

I have a steel frame that i'm re-conditioning.
On the top tube there's areas of rust damage that i want to clear up - it's not gone through the tubes at all, just pitted the surface, and only revealed itself after sand blasting.
I'm thinking of using something like 'liquid metal' or car body repair filler and then sanding it down smooth.Any recommendations on best products/approach - i assume whatever i do is going to have implications on how it gets repainted.
eg filler won't powdercoat, will any filler be suitable for stove enamalling etc etcThanks

I think I already know the answer to this. These are on the seat tube, one about an inch below the other on the opposite side, just lower than half way down.
Dangerous? Fixable? How would I check to make sure?
It was an ebay frame, I've had it for a few days and just noticed this.

Christ. First thing I would do is send it back.
If it's a cheap frame made with very thick-walled tubing, I'd be inclined to get a friendly welder (everybody knows a welder, right?) to make a steel sleeve and weld it around the tube, over the holes.
If it's cromo or 531 or similar, it'd need the tube replacing by a framebuilder.

I think I am sending it back. Just a massive pain - moved up to Edinburgh last week and found this on ebay, listed in Edinburgh, which then turned out to not actually be in Edinburgh, so he posted it...just wanted a frame for a single speed. Didn't mind that it would be a bit of a project but this is too much. And there doesn't seem to be a lfgss diaspora in Edinburgh, so back to ebay and gumtree I guess.
Anyway, thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Hey Ave, shout if you need the name of a friendly bike geek welder in Edinburgh or if you just fancy a scoot around the block. ( Im on the East side of town)

There is a covert LFGSS diaspora in Edinburgh.......

A friendly bike geek welder might be real helpful depending on what happens with ebay. I'll pm you if necessary...
I thought there must be one, but there's no subforum. We should start a subforum so I can buy an actual non rust-fucked frame around here. Do you guys know of anywhere in the city? I checked soul bikes and the bike station.

I'd recommend East Side Bikes as my LBS. Nice fellas and will always go the extra mile to sort you out.

Just had a look at their site - looks pretty good, cheers. That one didn't come up on the initial search. Might head down tomorrow

The only permanent solution is to prep the metal exhaustively, treat any rust on the inside with prussic acid and apply a durable coating. Helps to have a friendly powder coater, I've seen many poor jobs done for real money. This was a mess when I got it from the tip;

I've got what I'm guessing are sort of vent holes on my forks, one of them has developed rusting around/in it. They came with my fairly new Tokyo S2 so a bit concerned it's developed so quick.
Any tips for a swift fix or prevention? My plan was to get some rust remover from a hardware store, and diluting a bit in a bucket and leaving it to soak for a wee while. -

I'm not sure what rust remover does to paint & if it actually works if diluted.
I'd take the fork off, get a very bright torch and shine into it to assess damage before doing anything drastic. It may just be the welding hole and some fiddling about with a thin object and something to get rust off and some rust killer may be enough.
The S1 isn't made out of "pissoir steel" chromoly doesn't rust to oblivion quickly else my Charge Hob would be gone by now.

Great, thanks, I'll give it a go. Thought it was a bit strange that it set in so quickly.
Once I've got it off, would poking a bit of grease or vaseline in the hole be a good idea to try and prevent it coming back? -

I would only do it if frame / fork can "breathe" so there won't be condensation buildup. Fork I guess is OK as it has opening at bottom of crown. No doubt Sheldon Brown has words of wisdom! :)

Had a go at the weekend. Applied a bit of Hammerite rust killer, then cleared the hole with steel wool and a skewer. Put a bit of WD40 in there too, here's hoping the shit doesn't come back!

Mine was on sale, so maybe that's why. Didn't see anything at the time though.
Touch wood, the Hammerite worked a treat and haven't seen anything since.
Autosol+wire pad for mild rust.
Wire brush/sanding paper for bad rust that won't come off that way.
Then cover up and protect with items suggested here. Check inside of frame if you can to ensure there's nothing untowards inside.
Kurust from Hammerite kills surface rust...but it does turn it black which you may not want.
