  • Rather than start again from scratch (and go down the road of tiny cogs on triple chainsets), I persevered with the idea of using a good quality 53/39 chainset that offered a decent (in this case 43.5mm) chainline.
    The old MTB double was cast aside in favour of this 130BCD SRAM Rival OCT crank.
    The black 44T chainring is by FSA, it's non-ramped and designed as an inner ring, so using the proper recesses for the bolts means that it ends up being mounted backwards, on the outside. A win/win as it not only looks better but marginally decreases chainline on the outer setup.
    The bike's complete now, I took it out for the briefest of spins yesterday and it's nice and quiet. I'll give it a proper shakedown today though.

    There was an insurmountable problem with the obscure-as-hell 43T 130BCD ring I'd previously picked up, so I had to return it. Pic below should explain.
