If we play this tournament with no intention of going to the Euros but are placed high enough to qualify for the Euros will the place be given to the next best team? Or is the format not quite accurate enough to decide who the next best team is?
I'd feel a bit of a dick stopping someone from going to the Euros because I wanted to play the UK Champs.
No worries on this score methinks - apparently the EHBPC places transfer downwards to the next available/committed team and, as I understand it, those Euro places are decided on the Saturday rankings, not the Sunday UKHBP double elimination element (can this be confirmed by officials?).
Maybe the organisers can denote which teams registered are playing for an EHBPC place from the outset - I think it makes for even better competition on court for non-EHBPC qualifying teams to try and beat those who wish to represent the UK...
Yes, all Euro spots are decided by the Saturday rounds. The Sunday is then purely for the UK Champs.
I'd be hesitant about marking teams as going to the Euros or not before hand.. If a team has a surprising run, they might decide to go, after all.
The process will be that we end up with sorted list of teams, and once we know the allocation (which may be before, or after the UK Champs), the top X teams from that list will be given first refusal on their spots (with a timeline to accept the spot), and then we'll go down the list until we have enough teams.
