• Unfortunate name though

  • Lucky you. Unfortunately, drivers don't have the luxury of reporting and dangerous cyclists.

  • Nor do drivers risk losing their lives by them.

  • Don't they have exactly the same routes of reporting as mentioned on this thread?

Ie if a cyclist is working complain to employee, else complain to roadsafe or else the police.

  • Unfortunately, drivers don't have the luxury of reporting and dangerous cyclists.

Yes they do. However one is compelled to note that cyclists would have to work a lot harder to be dangerous than drivers, seeing as they're not in control (legally if not in fact) of a ton of fast metal.

  • ^^ & ^^^ Doh! Must type faster...

  • a ton of fast metal.

A ton? Nuffink weighs a ton anymore Granddad. A little Fiesta is more like 1.6 tons.

    Mock Phelpett?

    Myck Phglpytt?

  • just curious have you ever been hit by a vehicle?

see if you find the danger 'fun' after that...

    He has. He's also trolling.

It's an interesting thought experiment- how fast would a cyclist have to be going in order to have sufficient kinetic energy that they would/could imperil the driver of a car?

Given that cars routinely pull out without looking and end up with motorcyclists embedded in their sides, without breaching the safety cell of the car, I suspect the answer is "pretty fast".

If we use as assumptions that to imperil a driver you need the equivalent of a head on collision with both cars travelling at ~40mph we could use the following:

    • Car average mass is 1,600kg+single occupant, call them ~70kg.
    • Combined impact speed of 80mph with an object of equal mass

The average cyclist is going to be say 65kg along with 8kg of bike.

I reckon you'd have to fire the cyclist out of a rail gun to actually endanger the driver of a modern car.

  • But think of the inconvenience they'd suffer of having to get their paintwork redone or the mental trauma of having to wash bits of cyclist off the vehicle. It's only right that they should have recourse to sue dangerous cyclists that kill themselves by getting in the way. How else can we maintain civil society?

  • ^^ Cars have weak points. If you were driving at 40mph and hit a cyclist side-on then they may pass straight through your windshield, significantly imperilling you in the face.

Moose have killed people before in this way, but I'll admit they weigh more like 500kg.

    In theory that's possible.

However I don't think there's any known case of a driver being killed by a cyclist caused by a collision, even in open top vehicles.

  • I'm sure someone was killed around here years back by flinging the door open and jumping straight out and being basically squashed between the cyclist and door.

  • The average cyclist is going to be say 65kg along with 8kg of bike.

You and I alter those those averages, but in different ways.

  • I'm sure someone was killed around here years back by flinging the door open and jumping straight out and being basically squashed between the cyclist and door.

He got out of the vehicles, rather than being cocooned (not heard of that incident, if it does happened that is).

  • He got out of the vehicles, rather than being cocooned (not heard of that incident, if it does happened that is).

And in any case it would have been the act of opening the door into the path of a cyclist that was the dangerous bit, not the cyclist suddenly materialising out of thin air in order to cause squashy murder on some poor beleaguered driver

  • I came close to killing someone in the same way on my old motorbike, he took a wheel n guard to the nuts.

dooring is a serious matter, my mates dad got done on his c90 and face smashed the window, he wasn't happy to say the least.

I find drivers to be the worst for it, it used to be the kids getting out the back but not anymore. I've lost count of how many nearlys I've had, especially if there's a restaurant in the vicinity.

anyhow seeing as this is the shouty thread, idiot woman driver last night, I'm riding to see the kid and coming upto the lights, a tjunction on a hill with odd timing, the road narrows significantly before becoming a left filter/straight on. anyway I'm mashing up the hill at 20mph, lights are on red and I'm moving out to go straight on when idiot woman catches up with me, goes wide into the already moving on coming traffic then swings back infront of me and into the left filter, which is on red . wac, I was already over the hill before she got moving, she could of just rolled off as it took me all of 5 seconds to get past where she wanted, there really are some fuckwits about.

  • I was turning right this morning, sitting about a foot to the left of the white line, waiting for a gap. My spidey-senses tingled, and I looked over my left shoulder to see a taxi buzz me within about 6 inches, probably doing 30mph.

I went after him and asked what he was doing. He said I was in the middle of the road. I agreed that this was true. I said I was waiting to turn right. He asked why I didn't have my arm out.

Confused. So he saw me, but I didn't have my arm out, so he buzzed me. If I had my arm out, would he have given me space? Am I supposed to have my arm out constantly, being smacked on the wrist by oncoming traffic?

    Meh.

  • Did you check behind before preparing to turn right?

  • just curious have you ever been hit by a vehicle?

see if you find the danger 'fun' after that...

You should see my right shoulder.
Yes, I fucking have. Classic white van pulling a right turn across my path.
There are pics on here somewhere. I still stand by what I said.
Don't be a pussy, shit happens and insurance pay-outs soften the blows....

  • He has. He's also trolling.

Now, now Oliver. As if *I would...*

  • Did you check behind before preparing to turn right?

Sure did. Was lots of oncoming traffic so was waiting. Had been still for ~5-10 seconds when Maverick buzzed me.

  • Can someone Potatochop me trackstanding on top of a control tower, while Tom Cruise and that bloke from ER fly really close/fast in a black cab?
