The larger sensor is very worthwhile, F/2.8 is still plenty fast to be honest, and in theory the larger sensor of the newer Ricoh should have less noise at high ISO.
If you're looking for a great compact that have a good sized sensor, zoom and actually have some depth of field, the Sony RX100 might fit your bill.
