The thinner CX Ray spokes build a stronger wheels if I'm not mistaken because the spokes are more elastic. This either gives them inherent breakage resistance or means you can tension them tighter or something. I'm sure someone can clarify.
If I remember my wheel rightly, the spokes were more similar to CX rays than normal bladed spokes, because the blade was the same width as the butted portion, rather than wider as on a spoke that's just been flattened.
